Default The Better amp for the money

It'll be a while before i buy the amp (gotta pay the bills), but i want to make sure I can get the best for my money. First of all the speakers i will be using are two 12" Type R's. They are dual 4ohm voice coils and rated 500wrms. Plan on running them parallel on a mono, so a 1 ohm capable amp is needed

I am looking for the best amp for the price to hook them up to. I origianlly thought the rockford T10001bd, but now after some more searching, there are a lot of other amps. One in particular is the Hifonics Brutus cuz it gets the job done at a cheap price http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-B...wItem but the quality im not sure on. Zapco, JL, seem to be a bit too expensive.

Any other recomendations or personal knowledge on these amps?

OH, my price range is about 500 or so. I understand at that price i cant buy from a dealer, but i'll take the odds on ebay finding a good seller

Phoenix Gold Xenon 1200.1 is a 1-4 ohm stable amp. It is $357 shipped on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Phoenix-Go...wItem

I own a 400.1 version of this amp (also bought now a 600.1 which I haven't hooked up yet) and never had a problem in 1.5 years with it. It barely gets warm after hours of loud music.

Because I already own a PG Xenon amp I wanted to try something different this time. But, because I looked and looked and couldn't find anything 4ohm stable for the amount of power I needed, and the amount of $ I wanted to spend, I had to get another Xenon, which is absolutely fine, just wanted to try new things...

Hmm, i've been wondering on the hifonics. I see you are using a couple Zeus's for multichannels, how are they working out?

$190 just seems an outrageous price for 1000 watts, not that im saying it should be higher , just compared to the JL's and Rockford's, how does the quality and reliability stand up?

$190 outrageous??? the MSRP is outrageous!!! It's around $500.

I never used this amp in my system because i think it would have been too powerful. I didnt want to blow my sub. I kinda bought it by mistake and couldn't return it.

I dont have the ZX6000 amp anymore because it wasn't the correct amp for my sub either...the ohms didn't match up. I do still have the ZX6400 4 channel Zeus that powerers my 4 Infinity Kappa's. It sounds really good. I would have rebought a Hifionics amp for my sub but they didnt make one in the wattage i was looking for. Let me know if you wanna take this off my hands. I'll be posting it on ebay this week for the same price so i dont know how long i'll have it.

I'm pretty much a noob, but i took apart a couple of amps and i can tell you that Power Acoustik is not bad at all, in my opinion is a good bang for your buck, when i took it apart the welds look VERY good.
If somebody has anything to say, please lecture me.
(BTW i have a power acoustik 4 channel that puts out 85w rms x 4) it sounds very good. But then again, i'm a noob

good luck

Wow i'm very suprised the Rockford Fosgate Power Series T10001BD isn't doing the job on 2x12 Alpine Type-R's..I thought it'd be more then enough. I personally like those RF Power Series amps.

i have a kicker 1200.1 it is 1 ohm stable. it was 800 bucks when i bought it new from sounddomain. i had it hooked up to one L5 solo baric (600 rms 1200 peak) never blew the sub and the amp runs cold as hell.

you can find the 2002 model for like 400 or less. i live by kicker. plus you can strap two together for 2400.1 if you need to

I would have to agree with Odessa the PG sounds like the better deal.

Kicker Quality has gone to $hit since they moved manufacturing to China.

OH! i know, i was just saying that power acoustik it's a good brand for the money, i payed 90 bucks for my amp described above. I took the lower cover to have a peek inside and it looks well built, i have seen amps inside and this one compares to some rockford i've seen.
I was just throwing that so the poster could see if any of the amps they produce works for him.

edit: i was refering to something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-POWER-...wItem

Their website says 1100 RMS, but it's just a recommendation, i don't know much about class d amps.

Let me comment on this.

Looks are only part of a design. No judgement should be soley based on looks.

There are a lot of factors that play into what a "good" amp is.

The best amps IMO and not in order and that I have first hand knowledge with are

PG
Soundstream
Zapco
US amps

There are others cant remember at the moment. But these fit the general all around good quality amplifier.

I am biased toward Soundstream just because they offer more support then anyone else. You can get full schematics free of charge from Soundstream. I hope they never do to there premium line what they have done with there lower line.
