How can I tell if my son's car is REALLY anSI? I have tried to search, but can't really find the answer. Can I tell by the VIN or rather what will tell me in the VIN. My shop manual doesn't provide this information, or I have overlooked it. Any input is appreciated.

 

Sunroof would give it away. Only SI hatchbacks had sunroofs. There is some way to tell by the VIN but the method escapes me as of now.

 

Sunroof
MPFI 16 valve D16a6 motor
Nice seats (different from the dx/hf)
Should have some tear drop alloy wheels
6500rpm redline on the gauge cluster
Should have an SI badge on the back( but any idot can buy one and put it on)
Should have a small lip on the front bumper(but could be off)
The door panels should have "CRX" engraved in them.
Also what color is it?

To be %100 sure run the vin number through carfax,,

 

for starters does it have a moonroof? only SI's came with them and check the engine code if it says d16 its an SI if it says d15 it is ether a dx of an hf.

 

look at all the options it's got. sunroof? si badge? d16a6? A/C? wheels? seats? tachometer and dashboard?

 

Must be an Si, Has sunroof, 6500 redline, nice seats, but door panels are JDM with power windows and folding mirrors. Would you happen to have a picture of the front bumper? You see the car was wrecked at some point and I want to make sure it has the right bumper. I know, not a big deal to some, but it is to me. I know it doesn't have the front lip you mentioned.

Any idea where i might find a detailed picture of the front bumper for this car? It has no lip, but I can make one from an Integra work with a little modification. Thanks for your help!
Just got second picture, that helps a lot! seems like everything outside is correct- except for the lip. Iguess that will be my next small project. Thanks again to ALL!

I've got an '88 Si and it has no front lip like that picture. It is all original. Maybe the lip was a change for 90-91?

 

The title might say if it is an si.

All the si models come with lips..Sometimes people steel them,or they fall off..Or they get into an accident and replace the front bumper and never install the lip..

and type the VIN# it should tell you the model.

 

The 90-91 lips have cutouts for the foglights, they look a little different. If you have the roof and motor, chances are it's an Si. Also the glove box will have felt lining.
