So my brother is trying to convince me that buying a cheap 40 dollar intake off of ebay will do the same as a 200 dollar and up intake from a name brand company like AEM or something for my 92 accord.. I know there's something wrong there I was just wondering.
an Intake is just that...an Intake.
The part you have to really take care about is the Filter. Aem/k&n, Apexi are the best IMO.
So yeah you can get any cheap pipe but you definitely want to use a good filter:

Hmm agreed altho AEM and other brand name intakes will last longer and some are ceramic powerded . its basically like your going to Home depo you either but an material A lol (cheap) intake which will lose its purpose of being a cold air intake because by the time the air has passed up the pipe has already heateded up. or getting a better one in example Material B which will let the cool air flow freely inside the intake.?
Also how about Tenzo R filters? are they any good? lol

Yeah this one has powdering in it.....And its the dry mesh type filter at the bottom........he ended up ordering so I'll just see how it goes....it came in right away actually.....the intake itself was 14.99$..and 20 bucks for shipping lol....I don't know how long I will keep it though cuz I hopefully will get an engine swap or something lol.....This is one of my first cars to work on so I'm trying my best to have fun with it lol. One more question though......I know cold air intake gives more hp than short ram.....but whats the plus side of short ram over cold air???......
another thing lol.....I also have a 90 honda civic hatchback........would that be more worthwhile fixing or would the accord be a better route to go.......I've just chosen the accord cuz my brother is driving the civic until he gets his car but i get it back shortly.........would a civic be a better car to work on....cuz i know it's smaller and lighter than my accord....

heck yeah man, you definitely want to power the hell outta that hatchie, drop an H series engine on it and youll smoke.

The HP between short Ram and cold air is not that much and you barly will feel it its not like u slam the gas and it will feel like a v6 lol. The upside to the short ram intake is that if you like in a wet climate and it rains alot you wont have to worry about you filter getting dirty alot on the other hand cold air intakes most of the time you have to attach and air bypass valve so just incase it rains really hard you dont want that filter getting soaked and sucking up water lol.

secondly if you want a faster car betwwen the accord and the civic you better off tuning the hell outta the civic due to it being alot lights than the accord. you can find and H22 engine at your local junk yard if you lucky "ask for a prelude engine h22" lol milage on the civic?? and accord? but if you dont want to do whole complete engine swap there are other alternatives to look into.

The mileage on my accord is at about 210,000 lol yeap way up there and the civic is around 180,000 i think....which is why I thought it would be better for a swap bc that's a lot of mileage......And thanks for all the help it really means a lot and is helping a lot cuz like I said I want to be able to learn all I can about my car so I can have fun fixing it up and all of that. So would an engine swap be better than boosting it. ( and by boosting is that putting turbo in it lol? Like I said I'm still learning.) Or what would be a good way to go.....If anything I'm gonna by suspension and all that cuz I wouldn't have to replace that if i did an engine swap....I know i need to switch the clutch on the hatch as well cuz right now it's only a four speed transmition.....I was hoping to find an Si 5-speed lol...i think that's right......but all this help helps a lot and if you guys have any more I'm listening

I just installed a 'cheap' eBay intake. It seems to do a really good job. It was the one for $8.99 and like $16 to ship from seller ~
racinghouse. Will be running it more this weekend. Will post my findings...either way...our rides are breathing better than factory air boxes...but a K&N
wouldn't hurt...lol

Decide whether you want a JDM or a USDM.
I used to know a good store online where a friend ordered his JDM h22, I thought I had it under my fav. but no. anyway, here is another site where you can see not just H series but B and K as well. here

I have a K&N cold air intake but only bought it because a family member works at a store that sells them and I could get a family discount. I wouldn't pay full price for it. I'd get a cheap eBay intake and put a K&N filter on it.

Well i guess you would be better of on swapping the engines on the accord first think about your priorities u know? like would you rather have a fast car that you gotta drop money into to make it faster( civic) or would you rather first have your accord become reliable and swap the engine so you can get from point a-e in the times that it takes to get from point a-b lol.
So yes i would suggest fixing the car your going to need to get around in.
i think u said its a 92 accord so you can do other stuff besides Boosting it (putting a turbo or NOS), things like Catback exhaust, headers, intake (u already got) pullys, programed ecu from jet, ignition upgrade, etc. all this ofcourse would be on the new engine.
If your lucky u can find an h22 engine on ebay for like 800 with like 50k miles just keep looking you'll get lucky and they be able to sell everything with the engine like wiring ECU and whatever eles you will need to do the swap.

the short ram intake is better during raining seasongs becuz the cold air intake sucks in water, so u're gonna have to take it off when it starts raining. i would get a cheap ebay short ram intake and put a k&n filter on it also. but right now i just have a stock intake with a ghetto riged filter bought from kraigen's. i heard all intakes works the same, it jus sucks in air. and makes that VrOom VrOom.

You all need to educate yourselves just a little bit. A CAI is not going to suck up water. You may get some water vapor or condensation into the intake which will do absolutely nothing to you engine. Also, your filter would have to be completely submerged for the engine to become water locked. So unless you plan on driving through lakes or heavily flooded roads. CAI>Shortram.

Wow u must have no about intakes and are just stating BS.
Do you actually know how much water it will take to get into the engine
? if it rains and your filter gets wet it will not go into the engine because the vaccum will dry the air up before it even hits the cylinder for combustion. thus being stated. i live in Newark Delaware on the east coast and it rains alot here especially in the summer it feels like when i lived in FL and just because it rained alot doesnt me my intake was sucking in water. and on top of that at the time being i did not have no inner fender lining on the passenger side where my intake was so when i was driving water was splashing against my intake and when i pulled the car into the garage and i disconnected my intake WHAT DO YOU KNOW IT WAS DRY! Wow!. in addition to im sure many people have their inner fenders on their cars and the splash from the wheel-well will not even come close to the filter because it is in a closed space, u might get a drop from the front but very doubtful it will hydrolock you engine unless you decide to be a dick and drive you car in a 9" puddle of water where you CAI filter is submerged in water with no air bypass valve. Yes at time i think that short ram intakes are a better idea due to it not getting as dirty but thats why Air filter cleaner exist! this way you wont have to keep buying filter

Thats somewhat true. If you get pulled over in California they may ask you to pop the hood and give you a ticket for not having a CARB approved intake. But if you don't live in California or have a gay *** governor like WA (who is trying to implement CA emissions), then more power to you.
