Default Walkthrough. Installing Hood Locks

Well these instructions are done on a 96-00 civic they will probably work for other cars as well. They will cover the Spectre/NRG style locks. you could do the same for hood pins also I suppose.

I had intended on making a nice splash image for the first page of the walkthrough but then it started snowing so it will have to wait.

some preview images.

the thieves opened it. This is partially in response to my car getting stolen last month. They pulled my hood cable through the fender and opened my hood.

yeah pissed me off pretty good. yeah with this method even if they pull the hood cable it will not pop up to release from the latch. you have to undo the locks in order to open the hood.

How many keys are there for these locks? This would disuade some little teenage **** who wants your intake, but any real thief is going to have a ring of keys for these locks - as well as wheel locks and every series-key from the cars they like to steal - that will undo all of your security measures.

Good idea for 75% of situations, but 75% of situations end up in a broken window and a jacked CD player. That's never what I'm worried about.

well It just so happens that each one of these is keyed seperately. I bought a set for my coupe and my hatch and im using one of each on both cars heh. it might slow them down a bit more. shoot if the thief is a key magician Im pretty much screwed along with everyone else in the world.

very nice writeup, I think I may do this myself. Anything to slow them down is good. Layers of security is always the way to go.

I would think it advisable to colour match this if possible so that it blends in a little better. Hood locks would just say to a theif "hey there is something in my engine bay I dont want you to have." just my $0.02

oh and...

You need to thread the retaining nut onto the body of the lock. Try not to drop the nut into the hood as its a real pain in the *** to get out. Go ahead.... ask me how I know this. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Hey, umm how do you know this?

yeah I suppose the locks say that something is there but I bet the intercooler gives them a better idea. heh.
So I look at it this way... Interscooler says "psst... hey thief..... look at me..." and then the hood locks say "better think twice about that one buddy" and then if it gets down to it my kill switches, rapfix rquick release lock, kill switches, autolock, alarm, ecetera, all say "GET THE FUHK OUTA HERE" in unison.

well thats the idea anyways.
