I'm considering a K swap in my CRX, I also plan on cams, porting the head, and ITBs. Just wondering what are all the differences from a K20A2 (USDM RSX) swap and a K20R (JDM ITR) swap?
K20A2 = 200hp, 11.0:1 compression, open diff, 4.388:1 FD
K20A Spec-R = 217hp, 11.5:1 compression, LSD, 4.764:1 FD
The K20A has better cams, intake manifold, and exhaust, but you'll be replacing all of those anyway.

Ah I see, that makes the K20R more worth it then. I dunno though, I don't like the fact you have to pull the motor to change the header. I might stay B, but this K stuff looks tempting.
Just do it Bart, you already know what B-power feels like. You will always wonder what if K would have been better. And you know that your probably going to have the first EF K-series in Mansfield/Crestline.
Power K > B
Money B > K
Your good for the money though

Yeah if I do it, it's purely going to be from an engineering POV, not because it would be the only one around. The thing I like about the B series is the chassis was originally designed for a B motor, so it isn't difficult to work on. I'm affraid the K swap might complicate simple tasks. I just need to figure out all of the variables. It seems for what I'm going to have in building my bottom end, rebuilding my tranny, and installing LSD I could have a K20R swap for that, and then I have all of my old b stuff to sell. I've got to do more research, but if I can make >power with the K, and spend the same money or less then it will be the K. This is a difficult decision.

you don't haVE TO pull the motor, you just have to disconnect the mounts and move it forward a bit. But if you have it installed on the engine already, you don't have to. just install it from the bottem.

Also the R has shorter 4th 5th and 6th and believe me you reach these gears in no time.
You can resell the R cams, intake mani and header whereas the type S ones you can barely give them away for free.
The flywheel is also significantly lighter at 10.25 lbs
Add in the cost of sourcing an R trans, buying a lighter flywheel and all the stuff u can sell from the K swap is starts to look better just to spend the extra 2000 and get the JDM K20
