Default Prelude Hood Damper / Bonnet Strut (searched)

Hi,

I've seen plenty of kits for Civic/Integra Hood Dampers for sale.

Below is a Tein example.

Anyway, there is no love for the Prelude on this item and since the 4th gen has such a poorly designed Hood stay stick (read below) I was wondering if anyone else had attempted this with a hood damper kit for a different model car IE Civic/Teg.

Why I want to do this:
With my stock hood stay, the plastic cracked and went brittle and eventually came off somewhere in the engine bay meanwhile the rubber grommet at the bottom perished and no longer operates correctly. Now when I pop the hood I have to cringe as I carefully place the bonnet stay in such a way that it doesnt slip and dent my hood from the underside.

Thanks in advance.

What is it:
A Hood Damper or Bonnet Strut replaces the standard bonnet prop. It is a kit consiting of two small gas struts and an instalation kit. They mount near the bonnet hinges and when the bonnet is opened it is held up until pushed closed.

This is commonly seen as standard on some european cars and american cars.

The kit bolts to the fender in the original bolt position here:

The kit fits to the bonnet here:

The kit fits to the bonnet by 2 small holes drilled and then the bracket is pop-riveted in.

The test car:

A car fitted with the first bonnet strut kit. Enjoy!

The final price is US$180 and can be purchased through myself.
Shipping is extra and will be quoted when you PM me.

Shipping Prices:
US$25 USA
US$25 Netherlands
US$30 Puerto Rico

The struts are black with a polished rod.
The kit will come with photographs and a detailed set of install instructions. They also come with unlimited instalation support from myself.

If you are an interested buyer please post in this topic and be aware this is 4th generation only

These are for the Bonnet / Hood ONLY.

The struts can be seen when you open the bonnet.

The kit will not interfere with the closing of the bonnet.

Doesn't Tein make a generic dampner that can be made to fit the Lude?

I've seen a damper designed for the dc2 fit the prelude with some modification. By some I mean they fabbed up new brackets because the integ ones didn't fit (obviously).

Would anyone happen to have some pictures of the DC2 dampers on a 4th gen lude?

Do you recall how much custom fabbing was required?

@ries tried to use a scion xB hood damper on his car with no luck...according to him the shape that the 4th gen fender area is designed doesn't allow the hood damper to stay flat, therefore, it can't be done i guess. but try it out and get back to us

Hi all,
I'm having a fabrication shop make some special 4th generation speecific hood damper kits and I am just wondering how many would be interested in this?

The price would be approximately USD$130.
This depends on how many buyers I may get.

I think everyone would be interested in how the finished product looks and performed before they agreed to go in to buy one... but I think I might be interested depending on the finished product.

These kits will not be poorly made.
Here's an example of one of his kits on an older car...

The dampers he uses are european made and the kit will come with photos and fitting instructions.

With Acura Legend struts you dont get the instalation kit parts to allow you to bolt onto the hood hinge.

Therefore customisation will be required and the prelude hood may be too heavy for the strut.

they wont be. i had to put one on a 93 legend and the hood was as heavy as the prelude. and a little modification always has to be done for anything custom.

With the bonnet closed it would look just like a normal lude!

The struts dont interefere with the bonnet or how it closes - it sits in the gap between the inner ribbing of the bonnet and the fender.

I have more pictures of it open though:
