I would get some boots on it and no you don't need to buy a new one. Search rack end bushing and you will probably get your answer. You can always rebuild your current one.
my guess is that one of your wheels isnt balanced, look around the rim and see if you can tell if a weight fell off, have a tire shop spin balance your front tires.
rack end bushing. or inner tie rod balljoint. or any one of your other balljoints.
those boots protect the rack. if crap gets up there, your rack and the bushing, which is plastic, and the inner balljoint will get worn quickly.
but you gotta check everything. it could be just one thing completely trashed, or a lot of little things. id even consider axles.
check the rack end bushing by turning the wheel all the way left, then get under the car and just grab the rack thats sticking out. push it up and down. if you feel any play, the bushing is toast.
then have a friend turn the wheel and put your hand on the outer tie rod balljoint. there shouldnt be any play there either.
then grab the wheel again, and with it already in the air, pull UP on it. that will help diagnose the condition of your upper and lower balljoints.
