Yet another foglight question
I was wondering...does anyone know how the owner of this car recessed his foglights?
Recessed:

Normal mounted position of USDM Bosch fogs:

Anyone know the owner of the above car? I'm liking the recessed look over the "hanging out" look. Cleaner
.
Thanks

bump, I'm assuming it's custom brackets, but if anyone knows how with the OEM brackets, please enlighten me before I go out an attempt to DIY this.
I would suggest that you make a custom bracket allowing you to mount the lights further back. I am sure it wont take much more than a few pieces of metal and a couple screws.

Those are OEM Bosch, discontinued. They surface once in a while though, and some 80's OEM bimmer foglights are the exact same type (housings and all), but don't have the clear outer edges. Forgot what years though (just check the early 3er metal bumper fogs or 5er metal bumper fogs).

Last time I went to a junkyard and checked they were. The mounting is slightly different though, but that's no problem seeing as I'm fabricating my own brackets right now. If anything, the bimmer mounts would probably make it easier to recess the foglights without much modification. If you'd like, I can take some pictures of my OEM fogs tonight with rulers at every corner, disasembled, side shots, etc. Every measurement you need to check. Just gotta go to a junkyard afterwards.

My aftermarket bumper support -- Can anyone tell me the differences between my bumper support and OEM? All I know is there's no place for me to screw the 3rd bolt for the foglight brackets onto:

Sorry for the poor image quality/shaky photos. Was trying my skills as a photographer with night mode + long range lense (shooting close range), and no tripod
.
All measurements are approximate, but damned close. Just don't have any vernier calipers around.

Do we know what the dimensions of the Honda ones are now? And what year BMW did these come off of?
Inquiring minds want to know.

If you read the full thread then you'd see that the images I snapped are of my OEM Honda Bosch foglights for the 88-89' Civic/CRX's. The dimensions were for someone to double check the mid to late 80's 3er/5er Bosch foglight dimensions. Last time I was at a junkyard (a month or two ago), I scored myself that BMW foglight cover, and took the rough dimensions of the bimmer (late 80's 325e I think) Bosch foglight. I remember the glass had the same/roughly the same dimensions as the Honda glass, and the single bimmer foglight cover that I was able to find fit perfectly and firmly over the OEM Honda Bosch units.
The only large differences I was able to discern from the foglights on the bimmer, and the foglights for our 88-89 Civic's were...
1. Outer plastic retainers were black rather than clear as shown in the photos.
2. Mounting points for the bimmer were different from the Honda (doesn't matter for me, because my bumper support is aftermarket, and I'm fabricating custom brackets anyways).
3. The bimmer housings were slightly beefier towards the back. Probably to help the housings withstand being mounted in the open air better.
If mounted properly, the only visual differences between the bimmer and Honda fogs would probably be the black outer edges...but then again Bosch could've possibly made clear edges for the same generation bimmers (the one I saw just had the black edges).
Overall, for the OEM look bimmer fogs sure as hell beat all of these pep boys/auto zone stuff I've been seeing around. Just check to be 100% sure. The size and shape is right so even 1/4-1/2 inch off probably wouldn't make much of a difference.

No worries, now go out and figure out if everything is right. If it is...OEM look and function (Hey, they're both Bosch/same years!) for less than 1/5 of the price of used and beat up old Honda fogs.
(This is only tested for 88-89's, the 90-91's used Stanley's).
On a side note for future archive purposes, my 89' bumper actually had the lines in the back for stanley foglights as well. Just a heads up for anyone who wants to mount lower profile fogs as opposed to the large Bosch units. I myself, prefer the Bosch
