vtec engine
Hey everyone. I'm new here. I've got a 2000 MR EM1 Si. It's pretty cool to drive. I have a question for you. Since I do have vtec and not i-vtec, i was wondering that if and when i hit vtec or i engage vtec, does the higher profile camshaft burn more oil than when not in vtec? I mean for example, i engaged vtec twice today, so do you think that i should check my oil level tomorrow just to make sure im good? Is it safe for the engine if i engage vtec every day or so? I don't want to be sounding like a dumb car person here im just wondering cause i heard from somewhere else that engaging vtec the higher profile camshaft does burn a bit more oil. thanks in advance for the replies. by the way, here's a pictures of what my Si looks like. i hope you all enjoy it.[IMG]

It should not burn any more oil then usual. But welcome to the world of vtec. Make sure that your car is at its full operating temperature before engaging. Also, oil pressure and optimal vtec operation go hand in hand. Check your oil level frequently, keeping it as full as possible to prevent future problems.
Enjoy the Si man..its a beautiful car.

Yep. You want to keep an eye on oil levels anyway, but banging on it shouldn't really cause any extra problems.
Hell, I spool the turbo up pretty much every time I take off from a light and that's a lot harder on the car than VTEC and I'm fine.

To add to what previous posters said.. every B16A2 I've worked with has burned oil faster than your average car.. I'd make a habit of checking it every other week or so. Keep a bottle of oil on hand just to make sure it's always full.
Oh, and check out the EM1 Crew thread in Appearance/Cosmetic

Very nice Si man, I personally have an EBP one, I like it a lot. Ive never noticed any type of oil burning since Ive owned it. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours and how many miles are on it? Its really no big deal, but anyway
Nice thanks everyone for the response. yeah i do keep up with my oil level and with checking it quite frequently. What's the best type of oil to use? I know to use fully synthetic but does it make a differenc which brand i use? Also, I belive that EM1 stands for the chassis code. Is this correct because i say those EM1 crew stickers somewhere and was wondering where i could get one at. Thanks. How many of you guys here have those stickers on yoru car and where do you put them? On your front windshield?

Yes, EM1 is the chassis crew for the 99-00 Civic Si. The stickers though, most of the "crews" like EM1 and EK Squad. You have to get into the crew and everything to really rock the sticker yanno?

No "need" to waste money on synthetic oil, but thats your choice. I took my Si to 8,200rpms like 6-7 times everytime I drove it. Never had an issue with oil consumption. I would say those who do have issues perhaps failed to follow proper engine break in. I never had an issue with that car. I did have a SLIGHT issue with oil consumption on my GSR engine... but that was spun to 9k all the time. It wasn't anything major... might have lost a 1/2 quart over the course of 3k miles. All depended on how high I wound it and how frequently. When you wind the **** out of something like that, it tends to consume oil. Just the way it works.

The EK squad you have to "apply" for before you can be added to the list. For the EM1 crew, just find the most recently posted list (should be on the last couple pages) and add your name there. It's just to keep a count of active members. You can PM member Kicklow for stickers, or Stunna BEN for the tshirts. As for sticker placement.. it can be anywhere.. most most people put it diagonally in a corner of the front windshield.

you said that i would have to put my name on a list in order to be part of this and get the sticker. Not to sound completley stupid but where do i find the EM1 crew list at? YOu said that synthetic oil isnt' necessary but then whats the best high performance oil on the market for the vtec engine?
mmmm u might wanna consider getting something from the net or something like Photoimpression is what i think i have. You see those Si's getting stolen every week on H-T...so just a heads up. Also, u might wanna invest in some kind of security for your baby.

If you have Windows, just use Paint and make a rectangle over your plate, it won't be pretty but it will do the job.
Too bad you don't have the original front lip, it looks sick, but mugen is good too
.
I never knew that you had to apply to be in the EK squad, I better change my avatar.

yeah, but please do urself a favor and remember to cover ur license plate wen u put a pic of your car, i live in jersey too and i know they steal a lot of cars here specially in Elizabeth and Newark....specially you got a civic SI bro...but nice ride anyways man....
Hey sorry everyone for not responding faster but i used up all my posts. Anyways, yeah i edited my picture aso my front plate is blocked out. Thanks for that tip by the way. To answer your question, I got my Si for $10,200 with 49,000 miles on it. I just put about 51,000 miles on it.Oh i love it a lot. Driving it every day is just a pleasure and today i engaged vtec a few times and it felt pretty good. Even though you said synthetic oil is not a must, which type of oil is the best to use cause i want to use performance oil in my vtec engine. I mean to me, it just makes sense. you beat around the engine a bit, you got to also take care of it. I'm also definitly going to put my name on the EM1 crew list along with a picture of my car and buy that sticker. I think it'll look good and i was thinkingof putting it angled out to the left on the top left portion of my front windshield. YOu guys like that idea?
well i mean whenyou say they have to accept me first, what do you mean? I though i just respond to a particular forum and post up some pictures of my car. By the way, i tried responding to that other forum, and it said that i didnt' have permssion to. So how do i go about doing it?
nice. thanks for that response. do you know how to become part of the EM1 Crew cause i want to and want that sticker for my front windshield. hey can you send me a few pics ofyour Si maybe? here's another picture of my Si from the back. The blac Acura RSX is my dad's. That's pretty fast also although it is the base model. [IMG]
