Default dohc zc v-tec

is it possible to stick a vtec solenoid on a zc? i have one on a 91 si hatch and it runs great. the only problem is at 5500 rpm, something kicks in and i loose control of the car a lil from all the torque. it is super slow on the take off though. the engine was built by previous owner and i was wondering what could be wrong or if it might have a vtec ecu on a non vtec engine. the harness has three extra wires hangin that look like the one that goes on the vtec solenoid but im a newbie on hondas but have been working on cars since 12. plz help, i want to learn dammit!!!lol

yeah, i figured out what it was. the timing was off on the car. it had an air leak. and about the torque: the engine was built. it had high compression pistons with cams and it actually had polished/ported head. its a dohc zc, btw.
