I have a stock b16a sitting in my garage. I am taking the all motor approach to my si, but this a spare motor and I want to put it in a hatchback. Smog issues, and anything in regards to legal matters doesnt matter to me for this car. Like I said, its a stock b16a, so what do I need to do to make it handle a supercharger/turbo. Havent decided on which way I want to go there, so any input on wither way would be nice. BTW, this is motor was just freshly rebuilt.

 

How much power are you looking to put down? Stock compression?

Depending on your power goals you may be looking at sleeving, forged rods and pistons, headstuds. You'll need to get new injectors, the size of which will be determined by your HP goal.

If you're only looking for 250-275 you can boost the motor as-is since it was just rebuilt.

 

Im looking to get around 300 whp. Im looking for a cheap but good way to go. I know that the words cheap and hp dont go together, but Im looking for the cheapest but most effective way to go. Im thinking turbo however, because supercharging seems limited.

 

Cheapest and easiest way to get 300 whp would be to replace the rods, pistons, put a block gaurd on it, then stud the block and spray the crap out of it.


Not saying it would last forever, but I'm sure you could build it to handle a 100 shot quiet easily.

 

supercharging will not get you to your goals, unless you want to spend alot of a vortech kit. I hardly see those kits get 300whp, but its possible.

Turbo is the way to go. Piece together your own kit, it's very simple and you'll save tons of money. Make sure you invest in good fuel management, as that's the most important thing to making your motor reliable. You should be able to meet your goals easily with the right turbo.

If you are looking to save a little money you are probably wanting to go with chrome, uberdata or neptune for engine management. 300whp is not impossible on stock head and block but you will need a good tuner!!!!

 

Id go wtih something like a T3/T4 50 trim( 54 or 60 if you plan on wanting more)

Eagle Rods, Arias Pistons (or similar brand), ARP Headstuds, and injectors (450cc) should be all you'd need to make 300hp reliably.

After that I'd work on piecing together the turbo kit. You could probably find a comlete used kit for fairly inexpensive, or you can put it together piece by piece with new/used parts. I reccomend staying away from SSAC and XS Power products as they have a horrible reputation and shitty customer support.

Finally it would just be a matter of figuring out what engine management you want to run (don't use a FMU. If you want to do it cheap go with Uberdata/Crome.)

I 2nd that. If you want to make 300hp on a stock block make sure you're tuner is VERY good.

 

so other than the turbo, pistons, rods, head studs, injectors, and fuel managment, thats it? So expect around 3k-3.5k in parts....

 

You also need your manifold, turbo, wastegate (unless its internally gated), FMIC, BOV, charge piping, wideband, uber/crome chipset and burner (if you use uber/crome), downpipe, boost gauge, vacuum lines, and oil feed/return lines.

You can do it for well under 3 grand. I think my setup cost me around 1-1.5k. I saved a lot of money by doing my own charge pipes. 250 for a set of pipes is just a bit much if you ask me.
