Default Need custom exhaust setup info.. Please take a look.

Car history:

(96 H22A1) S-Pistons, Crower 2's, Trust header, and a Thermal Exhaust. I was thinking of changing my exhaust system to a 2.5 inch with piping from kteller and a magnaflow muffler.

Now my question is where should I start the enlarged piping? Should I have the collector modded to 2.5" or should I have it done on the exiting side of the cat? Needless to say I'll have some type of high flow cat on there. Also if anyone has a similar setup please give input and specify what type of resonator you have on and what it sounds like.... I kinda want the exhaust to be a bit less annoying than the thermal which has a constant loud hummm even on part throttle. Thanks guys

Anyone have experience running no resonator? I imagine it would be pretty loud?

Not really that loud. I've got no resonator with a 2.5" muffler and it's quieter then a lot of other cars, and I've run 2 cars in the past with no resonator and stock exhaust and it's barely louder (if at all).

I just got my custom 2.5" exhaust done with a 2.5" carsound cat with a resonator to a magnaflow muffler. Personally I think it doesn't sound bad at all, I would go with a resonator if I was you

on my h22 hatch i've got a rs*r gt2 and it doesnt have a resonator..its LOUD but i dont really mind to me its either factory quiet or loud and proud

on the other side of things...if youre gonna go through the process of a custom exhaust why upsize your piping by .12 inches..it wont do much to help if youre trying to gain power...

i suggest you copy the rs*r exhaust style and go straight back with the slight bend after the gas tank (minimal bends=maximum flavor) go with a 3 inch setup with a megaphone on your collector..h22's love air

I KNOW this will start a debate..before the honda-tech geniuses chime in here's all i have to say..

1) I have talked to a few tuners and headbuilders out there. they all say that h22's love air and you could defineatly slap a 3 inch on your setup, you can even put it on a bolt on engine and see gains

2) Use search as this topic came up last week and spawned a blood bath and I saw a few dynos from others that backed up this notion

You just a stupid head, hahahaa. He actually will make more power with a custom 2.5" exhaust overs omething like a rsr exhaust which has like what 2.36" or 2.38" piping? H22's do love air its true but they do not love 3" exhaust unless its turbo, trust me on that one.

trust you?? where is your dyno? i dont see it anywhere. now, you are going to go down to rlz engineering, and tell Brad Z that a 3 inch exhaust will NOT help on the h22 with a mild all motor setup...haha, you'll come back ashamed of yourself. Brad Z knows how to move air around. (period)

.12 of an inch will make about as much extra hp as a new air filter....provided the old one wasnt too dirty....

It's understandable that you would blurt out what you heard from other people because you do not yourself know the truth from any experience... and I can see why you said it... just don't say <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by vtech22 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">they do not love 3" exhaust unless its turbo, trust me on that one. </TD></TR></TABLE>..... so does anyone think I should try a 2.5 inch collector into a 3 inch catback? Anyone running a 3" on a naturally aspirated H22?

I have a 2.5" to 3" transition (burns stainless) for sale... check my sig. That is the correct way to do it. They optimized the angle of expansion and everything with that piece. You WILL pick up hp going to a 3" with a 2.5" collector and a transition.

^^^jd3jdm is about to...theres one..

let me post the end all to captain vech22's previous posts...<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by vtech22 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

son, open your 17 year old eyes and re-read where i stated that upsizing by .12 inches would only help a little (its called an economic decision, the costs of fabbing up a custom exhaust outweigh the benefits of increasing pipe diameter by .12 inches)

SOOOOOOOO, therefore if youre going to fab up a exhaust and want your power gains to justify the cost and time then go to 3 inch piping.

ok ill trust you and all of your experience.

lesson for the day is: If you dont know the answer, dont blurt out some random guess...dont be that kid..youre short changing yourself homeboy!

now, if you all will excuse me, i gotta go put some water in buc nasty's momma's dish
