i need some quick help on removing my b series head
how many bolts hold the head onto the block? do i have to drain the oil and the coolant from the engine? i have the timing belt off the valve cover off the header off what else do i need to take off?
First off, slow down a minute. To take the head off you will also need to take the distributor off, the intake and exhaust manifolds off, the head bolts out, the top timing cover off. Why are you taking the head off in the first place? Also you should be able to count the head bolts when you pull the valve cover/grommets off. I know there is more, my brain just hurts at the moment.
ummmm you dont see to have much clue as to what you are doing so I dont recommend you proceed any further lol
FWIW there are 10 head bolts holding the head on, they are located under the cams...

i have a b17a motor in my crx. The car have not be driven in almost 2 year. I plan on taking out th engine and putting in my brothers 2000 civic si. I would like to try the head swap first before i do the entire block swap. The head is ported and have cams, valve spring retainers skunk im type r trottle body. I have had the car for almost 4 year now. Maybe in the far future after i ahve done everything to the r i would like to put a k20 engine in there. For now i would just part it out and give it to my brother. here are pics of the engine and the car.

i really need help to take off the head. where are all the bolts loccated? any pics? Do i have to take off the intake manifold first? The distributor is obd-0. How do i take that off? so i have to make obd-2 becuase the si has a conversion harness obd-1. S
Dizzy, should IIRC have 2 bolts, the head, you will need to pull the valve cover first, then the cam caps, then the cams and then the head (bolts are below the cams IIRC) You also need to pull the IM and the exhaust mani. Once you have the IM and exhaust mani out of the way, you can then (if the head bolts, dizzy, cams are removed) pull the head. HTH

yes drain the coolant, no need to drain the oil to remove the head. and listen to our advice, get a freakin manual before you ruin something. btw this isnt ITR related and may get more help in the hybrid forum.

i just got done taking the head out the car. Wow alot of work when it only 2 people. i had to take out the cam like dave_b said thanks. well the head it and i left the block i will take some pics of the head and block and tell me what youe guys think. I have no idea what pistons are in there it just says N1. pics will be up tomorrow. If the head looks better than the Type r i might switch it and give my bro the type r head.
it looks like it ported at the intake side not sure. it has crower retainers and i have no idea what valves or springs.

Im pretty sure I said the bolts were under the cams
and if those are crower titanium retainers BE SURE you check them for wear before reinstalling. those things wear down quick and I removed mine after only about 20K miles.

like a couple people on this thread said... it doesint seem like you have much mechanical expericence... if i were you i would drop everything you are doing and do ALOT of research before you go any further with this and wind up ruining what sounds like a realy good haed set up and/or have to rebuild your block
