Default anyone put a y7 head on a a6 block? results?

my a6 head is in need of new parts according to my machine guy, so instead of dropping a couple hundred on parts and labor i have a 53k mile d16y7 head. should i just use that for the time being? has anyone done this? how comparable is it to a a6 head?

they are both 1.6 and non vtec, and they are rated almost the same. i have the head from a mini me i did on my girls car so i know its in good shape.

let me know what you guys think.

It will bolt up and you can use all your A6 accessories. it will bump your compression up a little.

I have a Y7 head on my D15. I'm getting ready to replace the springs ,retainers, valves on the head and find an A6 block to rebuild. The Y7 head is the same as the Y8, minus the vtec. Port sizes and head chamber are the same. Mine is milled 1.27mm w/ a Y8 head gasket i'm running 11:1.1 compression. I love my current set up.

Theres more to it, heres the set up right now:
D15b7 block,D16Y7 head milled .050 inch(11:1.1 compression) and exhaust ports mildly ported & polished, D16Y8 head gasket,D16y8 Intake Manifold port matched and polished to GSR TB polished, NGK plug wires ,NGK Iridium plugs(1 heat range colder), Skunk2 Cam gear, 3"V-racing SIRw/ KNN Filter, B&M FPR w/ gauge, PG-7 ECU (89 teg), Megan racing 4-2-1 header, 2.25" mandrel bent custom exhaust (Magnaflow race muffler, high flow cat., resinator)and dx tranny, evasive motorsports short shifter w/ SUS bushing, SUS motor mount inserts and all mounts filled w/ M3 polyurethane window seal. No tuning.

I only really raced a few people from the light, try to keep my racing on the track.

I ran my buddies GSR w/ exhaust. I pulled 1/2 car length from light , we ended up nose to nose around 80-85 mph.* I had full interior and stereo/amps+ sub.

Another was a 2001+ civic coupe 1.7 had exhaust and intake, dusted him from the start. He caught up after I slowed down for traffic. He said my car was really torque and asked what I had. Told him a mutt 1.5L, he stopped talking to me after I told him.Guess he was embarrassed,Oh well.

Then I ran S2000 lowered, exhaust and intake, not seriously trying to win, but hey it was fun. We happened to be running up hill too. From light I stayed w/ him through second till his Vtec kicked in and then he started pulling away.So around 50-60 mph then he went bye bye fast. *I was also running factory suspension and wheels/tires at this point. My hatch got smashed and i'm swapping everything over to my other civic.

Its been a fun set up, pretty torque too, but i'm gonna try too pick up more using the A6 block and I have a Crower stage 2/3 cam for the head. I install that and get it tuned. Also I need to pick up an EX/SI tranny.

well i have a 91 ex 4dr with kyb and ground control, cai, ceramic header 4-2-1, 2.5" cat back with n1 style muffler, centerforce dual friction clutch and i already have the mpfi obviously. i did have to convert the car to 5 speed though and i do have a 89 si tranny.

was your timing dead on or did you need a cam gear? prob not for me since they are both 1.6. i am also planning on using the y8 head gasket.

have you ever taken it to the track with that setup? j/c

thanks for the info man

I had to use a cam gear to dial in the timing. It was a half tooth off just like miini-me swap. But your not going to have that problem ,since you have a 1.6 block and head. Unfourtunately I never got it to the track. I finished building it late in the year and the tracks closed for snow. In the spring it was hit before i got a chance to run it. I run it once I finish the new project.I get dyno numbers too.
