what kinda tires??
im looking to get new tires for my 95 GSR'S. what are good all around tires that look good and can take turns fast? that will last as well? im looking for a all around good tire. thanx
Quick recommendation: Kumho Ecsta SPT or Yokohama ES100, both in the stock 195/55-15 size for around $60. Read on for more details.
Think of tires across a spectrum from the stickiest, fastest-wearing tires to the less sticky, longer-lasting tires, and you come out with a list that looks like this, starting with the stickiest and working down from there:
1. Drag Radials: BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial (won't last very long)
2. Other R Compound Tires: Hoosier R3S04 and A3S05, Toyo RA-1, etc (typical treadlife 2-4K miles)
3. Specialty Super-Sticky Street Tires: Falken Azenis RT-615 (typical treadlife 10K miles)
4. Best Top-of-the-Line Street Tires: Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Bridgestone S-03, Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, etc (typical treadlife 15-25K miles)
5. "Value" Top-of-the-Line Street Tires: Toyo T-1R, Kumho Ecsta MX (typical treadlife 15-25K miles)
6. Budget Performance, "Bang for the Buck" Tires: Yokohama AVS ES100, Kumho Ecsta SPT, Dunlop Direzza DZ101, etc (typical treadlife 25-40K miles)
7. All-season tires: Kumho Ecsta ASX, Pirelli PZero Nero M+S, etc (typical treadlife 25-50K miles)
Since you're in California, I'll assume you aren't going to be driving on snow and therefore don't need an all-season tire.
Among the other categories, what you get depends on how much you would be willing to sacrifice some performance for a lower price and/or longer treadlife. Category 6 is probably all you need for your GS-R, and you can get the Kumho Ecsta SPT or the Yokohama ES100 for around $60 per tire in the stock 195/55-15 size. Either one will probably make you very happy. If you want, you can spend a little more (around $85) for the category 5, either Toyo T1-R in 195/55-15 or Kumho Ecsta MX in 205/50-15, and even more for the stickier categories, but they won't last as long as the SPT or the ES100 (and they will cost more).

so far ive had kumho ecsta 711's, toyo proxie 4's and now im with the yokohama es100's and I must say that the es100s are by far the best. They grip like crazy and feel very nice on the road, Id definately reccomend these.

I copy and paste that info every time I post it. The numbered list, anyway (which is the part that really doesn't change from one person to another). Then I custom write the paragraph after it so that it responds to the particular car and preferences of the person who posted the question.
