Default 98spec jdm itr swap vs. custom built swap?

homo sells the 98spec itr swap for 4500+ shipping.

now what i want to know is is it possible to assemble a complete swap for around the same price 4500-5000 with more power? or would it be best to just buy the complete jdm swap?

not possible if you buy parts at retail prices.

you'd need to find a good deal on an ITR tranny (like $1200),
get a gs-r engine with midshaft & harness for like $1200,
skunk2 intake manifold($200),
some eagle rods($350),
~11.5:1 .25mm overbore cp pistons ($550),
boring block ($150),
balancing & micropolishing crankshaft ($150),
supertech valvetrain($750),
mild port & polish (clean up ports, polish combustion chambers) ($500),
ITR LMAs ($300),
nice ~68mm throttlebody ($300),
RC Engineering 370cc injectors ($280)
new bearings($175),
head gasket set($175),
bottom end gasket set($85),
skunk2 stg2 cams($550),
some new 94+ b-series axles ($300)
a decent header (JDM DC 4-1 $300),
a tuned socketed p28 ($500 tuned),
new water pump, timing belt, tensioner & spring($250),
and oil pump ($140)

how much is that? like $8415 if my quick adding skills are correct. this is assuming you have an unrestrictive exhaust, nice mounts, it's built correctly, etc.

add $390 to use pauter rods instead of eagle

add about $1500 to have it built by someone who knows what they are doing

it'll produce about 210 whp, and be quick as hell. but quite a bit more than $4500. this is a brand new engine, though

the jdm itr swap is a great bang for the buck, but if you can save a couple thousand more, you can have a hell of a setup. add about $1200 to have the block sleeved and bored to 84mm, and get the bigger pistons, and you've got a 235whp beast.

the 98 spec jdm itr swap will make like 165-175whp at best in stock trim, but i've tuned them to 196 with a good set of cams (JUN IIIs)

this is about as thorough as i can be with an all-motor setup

you could buy a ~99 ls swap for about $3000, and a nice turbo kit for about $4000, and about $800 in other parts and make the same power, just not as reliably

you could get a k20R swap with all needed parts for about $9000 (swap, hondata K-Pro, axles, linkage, header, fpr, etc. and pay about $2000 to have everything installed

it's up to you, but don't forget about safety equipment too (brakes, suspension, nice seat, harness, rollbar)

not including all the gaskets/machinework/labor/ and crap you have to end up buying when building a motor...
