Hey guys, I'm just curious, thought you guys might know... What should a 1993 Civic hatch with a GSR motor, DC 4-2-1 header, Injen Short Ram, and Tanabe racing medallion run on slicks, with no spare/jack and a decent driver?

 

si's are the heaviest ones. All the serious hybrids Ive seen are CXs.

just speaking from what I've seen in my area. Is the Si more rigid? what accounts for the extra weight? sunroof perhaps?

 

The sunroof adds weight and makes the chassis less rigid. But if all JDM cars came with sunroofs, you know the Si's would be the most sought after.

Chris, the car you're describing, which one can only assume is VTEC CX's car, is easily a 13 second car.

roughly - im glad I have the VX, plus pre-wired for vtec is money. But there is a topic in the EG/Del Sol forum about this , which model would be the best for the swap. Tom (b18c5_Eh2) gives some real good info

CX/VX weigh exactly the same. VX slightly lighter due to alloy wheels, CX has steelies.

The Si is 200 lbs heavier.

The CX/VX with a B18c1 and bolt ons is easily a high 13 sec car.....

The car should be low 14's-high 13's...the driver however, is what you need to worry about

i have a coupe and it runs high/mid 14's, a hatch should be low 14 high 13, ive seen em run at the street races and their blowing away rsx-s,type r's and even seen em take a turboed crx. lots of times i wish i had ahatch

 

Mine ran consistent mid 14's on street tires last year. I'm hoping to be in the low 14's this year. 13's on slicks will be easy.

before I went turbo, my best time was 14.4 on stocks with i/h/e. This is in a 95 ex coupe.

 

I have not seen accurate weights yet.

This is taken directly from the 1992 Honda sales brochure:

1992 Civics CURB weight are as follows:

1992 CX hatchback: 2094lbs.
1992 VX hatchback: 2094lbs. (same as CX and it has MUCH lighter wheels. Body or engine must be heavier than CX)
1992 DX hatchback: 2178lbs.
1992 Si hatchback: 2326lbs.

I had an Si hatch and I hated it. Too heavy if you ask me - I'm building a CX as we speak, and it will rock ***.

Anybody notice that both these 4-doors weigh LESS than an Si hatchback?

And to think the LX 4-door had power windows and doorlocks, 4 doors and a trunk, and it is STLL LIGHTER than the Si hatchback.

My old Si weighed in at 2289lbs. full interior with Type R swap and 12lb. wheels. Only thing out of the car was the spare tire.

Pushing 175whp I ran 13.9@100.97 on street tires at 2289lbs.

Si hatches suck *** period. I had mine for 5 years and I am glad it's gone. When I had my GS-R swap pushing 150whp it ran a 14.6 on 16'' tires and heavy-*** wheels, but who am I kidding? Probably a 14.5 car at best.

My new Cx will weigh right at 2000lbs. even. Maybe less. That weight loss combined with an ATS 4.929 FD should be a LOT quicker than my old Si.

Lastly, if you like cornering, the Si sucks. Why? All that extra weight in the worst possible place - the ROOF. Body roll is a bitch.

If sunroofs are so great then why are the Type R cars without them?

Well my friend ran a 14.0 with a USDM 98' GSR engine in a 98 Civic DX hatch back. BONE STOCK!!! Stock header, stock exhaust, stock 99-00 Civic si Air box. So I think a 92-95 civic hatch with a GSR swap should easily hit mid 13 sec with all blot on's

How much more does a GSR engine weigh than a CX engine do you think?

I wonder what mine weighs?

95 CX B18C1, no gutting, 16" Konig wheels with Nitto tires (this is probably pretty heavy stuff, about 16 lbs per wheel and another 12 (?) per tire?

My Lightning wieghs a little more than 4700 pounds.

yeah i agree that si hatch backs are too heavy. i am getting a vx in about 6 months from now. my car weighed 2430 with me in the car. the car is really nice but too heavy for me. im sure after i finish my motor work in the si it should run consistant 13.4's on drag radials.
