well, you answered your own question..You said GOOD,and 300$..Unless you get a really good hook-up..You arent going to get a GOOD tig for 300..I recomend the 180sd miller..Great machine..And very portable..Hopefully that answered your question..

i have a miller 180sd and it isn't portable at all. 200+ pounds isn't portable for weaklings like me.

$300 won't go to far if you want to be able to weld aluminum.

i just bought a miller 180hd (i think thats the right model)mig with the tig conversion for an extra $100 i paid under 300 for it cuz the store had it labeled wrong. i havent used it a whole lot but i think its worked ok but everone on here keeps saying you gotta pay like 2000 or more for a good welder can someone tell me what is so bad about my welder or others around 400 that are out there. ive never used one of these high end welders so i dont really know the difference just kinda wondering

that welder will not weld aluminum. you need AC current for welding aluminum. minimum you will get away with is a miller 180sd or a lincoln 185.

1/4" thick is pretty heavy even for these welders unless you preheat your aluminum. i'd recommend something with 200 or more amps if you plan on doing it on a regular basis.

I paid 3500 for my lincoln Precision Tig275 with a new bottle, mask, lense tungsten etc and youll pay about $1000 for a high end tungsten grinder
