hey man, i have a '91 hf and to be honest with you i was never impressed at all with the gas mileage. i probrably only got 30-35 mpg with it, but when i took out that sh*tty 60hp engine and went to a 100hp D15b7 i constantly get 40mpg no problem. i think that because i had to constantly keep revs up on the stock motor to even attempt to keep up with traffic it would use more gas, with the new motor i don't lay into it nearly as much so i think that helps.

You'll get a lot of wildly different answers regarding real world fuel economy.
Its best to stick with a standard like the EPA estimates. The 1991 HF was estimated to get 49 city/52 highway.

real world economy... I had an 88 hf with 196k miles on it, engine all stock, and fresh tune up as soon as I got it, and I got about 40-44 mpg each tank. i was quite impressed by the fuel economy... its a smart car to have as a commuter as long as you don't get hit by an expedition or something

30-35 mpg? that's terrible, you must have really beat on that thing.

i get 50mpg+ at 290,002.

I had a 88 HF and filled the tank went on the interstate and held in to the floor (100 mph)for 10 miles out, turned around and did the same on the way back.
I refueled and it got 29 MPG.
The best combo I got for city and HWY was 46 MPG.
Thats with 205,000.

If you're interested in getting good mileage, you should check out gassavers.org. I'll be putting an HF tranny in my 4-door in about a month.
