Default I'm Ordering a Hood and Spoiler Today

Ok, so passwordjdm carries the VIS hood for $399 + $150 shipping. $550shipped

They also have the VIS duckbill for $259 + $15shipping. $275 shipped

Now.

JDMshit has a CF hood for $475 shipped and they have a CF spoiler for $199 shipped. They are not VIS, so I gather.

Now, what is the difference in quality? Is it justifiable to pay for the VIS name? Is it clearly higher quality? Someone with experience chime in. Don't tell me you get what you pay for.

Thanks.

unless you are VERY concerned about weight, id go cheaper version. i cant imagine the weight difference being too great between those though, seem decent quality to me

I agree...but haven't the cheaper cf hoods been known to have fittment problems?

FYI
I personally have seen two vis duckbills and they both had very large gaps... The only jdmshit duckbill I've seen is the pics from the site.. so I don't know.

And i know the old vis hoods had issues w/ b-swapped civics.. so if this is for your K, you might want to look into that to make sure the hood doesn't rub off that pretty red paint on your vc.

VIS is better quality. and u need good quality when it comes to CF. the weaves on no-name brands will prolly be horrible.

I've seen 3 CF JDMSh!t hoods. All seemed to sit a little funny on the drivers side by the fender. They looked almost bowed up in the middle a little bit. Never really looked at a VIS hood all that closely.

I knew it. I had a VIS on my '95 lx, and the fittment was beautiful. If you want the aestetic/weight loss benefit of cf and are not all that concerned about "seamless" fit, I would holler at jdmsh!t and spend the extra $ on something else. my .02

As much as I hate when people come into a thread and suggest something else...
Ever since I saw a Siebon hood... I've been in love. They are a little more expensive, but my god are they nice. I just wish quality cf wasn't so friggin expensive

So conclusively, a VIS hood will fit and look better than a JDMshit one. Now what about weight?

I'll look for some Seibon pics.. I found these in another thread:

"Newman just told me they weigh in at 18 lbs"

and...

"VIS has a fiberglass core that gives the hood a little more stregnth, making it heavier around 19lbs I believe. (another guy in that thread chimed-in and said his Vis was 18lbs)"

and...

"i've had both.

-both fit perfect.
-seibon is lighter
-vis is slightly more... brownish.
-seibon doesn not flex nearly as much as my vis did
-sibon's weave is not 100% perfect, but barely noticable
-vis's weave is slighly better than seibons"

"got so tired of lookin at the shitty quality of my VIS i sanded it down and clear coated it last night"

"F@*K VIS
I work at a shop and every VIS hood we get is fucked up. Mine on my civic is really bad on fitment. And their employees are all ********."

Here's my experiences:

I had a Vis cf hood and rear duckbill on my 00 hatch, perfect fit, no problems ever.

I bought a JDMSHIT hood and a BKNW rear duckbill for my 94 vx hatch.

The hood was flimsy and fit like ****. It would flex in the middle when going over 70 mph. I bought a VIS hood and it fit perfectly. My bknw duckbill started delaminating after 2 months. It never saw the rain and was always garaged. BKNW just blew me off and wouldn't warranty it. I had less than 250 miles on the wing. The fitment was good but the quality was bad.

Call me if you have any questions.

Go with VIS or Seibon.

The best looking and fitting hoods I have ever seen are sold here: http://www.hammerheadaviation.com/Hoods.htm I think they quit making them though.

Mine on my EH2 has bad fitment at the front bumper. I can almost see the bolts that hold on the front bumper through the gap. Keep i mind this is a "no name" CF hood from JHPUSA(<<stealing bitches) & it very well might be the same "no name" brand. Just go w/ the name brand IMO.

Make sure you put boat repellent on your CF, keeps the sun from beating up on it as much

i have a vis hood and wing and i have seen jdmshit parts and in my opinion the weight betwwen the two companys is similar, but if you are concerned wit the fitment and the finish of the prducts(which if i was spending that much $$ i would be) i would without a doubt go w the VIS products. the jdm **** products are not bad ,just not the quality of the VIs products,,,,,,oh abd bknw those hoods fot like **** and the edges are rough as hell

I've decided to go with VIS only if there isn't something clearly better.

I've read that they fit pretty good.

it depends where you live really, and what kind of weather your car is exposed to.

My jdmshit v2 carbon fiber hood fit pretty damn good, except for the scratch that was on it, and newman refunded 1/2 of my money for the scratch.
