cheap aluminum radiator?
Anybody know of a cheap aluminum radiator for 89 CRX? I'd like to take some more weight off the nose of this thing, but I don't want to spend $300+.
Some of the spec miata guys use this $100 Koyo aluminum radiator with plastic tanks. I don't know if it's really koyo, but it's cheap and works! I'm sure that there is something like that for Hondas too.

yeah i got my cheap aluminum w/ plastic tanks on ebay from a guy named "radiator connection" it was like 60-80 bucks, its cheap and effective i highly recommend it.
I ordered one yesterday at http://www.radiobarn.com "Heavy Duty" radiator. Alot of ppl here has it and they said that the quality is great....
its about $130 shipped
but if you whant a "racing" radiator, good luck on getting one below 300

goofball, I couldn't find a user by that name. Are you sure that's right? Maybe he doesn't sell anymore. I did a broader search, and found aluminum radiators for civics and del sols, but nothing specifically for the crx. Maybe I'll have to research retrofitting one of those in.
pakipr, I got the impression from radiatorbarn.com that those radiators are copper, not aluminum. Am I mistaken?
And what exactly defines a "racing" radiator?? Isn't a "racing" radiator just something that is lightweight and cools better... most likely by being aluminum, dual core, and maybe a bigger tank (or smaller, to save water weight)?

It looks like he doesnt have the crx aluminums in stock now, just the all metal. you might have to email him, but the crx aluminums looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...sting

You aren't going to be losing much weight doing this unless you count your wallet.

Thanks goofball. That guy's prices are ridiculous. Radiator for $30? How was the fit? Now I'm starting to wonder what I'd be missing by going with such a cheap radiator.
What are the practical differences of a cheap aluminum radiator and a $300 one?
I guess you're right about the weight difference. Now that I think about it, the OEM radiator is only a couple of pounds.

well from what i remember installing it. it was pretty damn light compared to my old all metal one. like less than half the weight of the old one or more. but my old one wasnt oem, it was some generic all metal one. but if youre really concerned about wiehgt you should do something more dramatic like switching out the battery for a motorcycle one that will save at least 15 pounds.
We have a lightweight battery already.
Supposedly the front-passenger side is the hardest part of the car to corner balance, since it's so light. I was considering getting a smaller half-sized radiator like what you find in the civics, and mounting it towards the passenger side. That might even out the weight a little.
