Default D16Z6 and D16A6 mounting, etc...

I have a 91 Civic... So far it's had a D16A6, and now has a D15B2. I bought a turbo and several other D16 engine components, as I was planning on putting a D16A6 back into my car. I would _like_ to put a D16Z6 in my car. As far as I can tell, D16Z6 is for '92 and up. But I can also tell that the D16A6 and D16Z6 have nearly the exact same block.

So my main question is: Can I mount a D16Z6 in my car without getting new mounts? I know I'll need a new ECU and wiring harness. Oh, also concerning the transmission... what are the differences if any. I've always ran 88 to 91 SI transmissions. What for the D16Z6?

Other questions: Will my current gauge cluster be compatible with the D16Z6? Also, what is the rev limiter set to on a D16Z6? Base horspower in stock configuration for both D16Z6 and D16A6 (if you know)?

Thanks for the replies

Yes it will bolt in. You can use any D series tranny, Si is the best, or a ZC-Si hybrid. Search, everyone and their brother has done this swap.

All this can be found using the search button, but will take some time. I'll save you some.

D16Z6/A6 bolt up exactly the same. 88 trannies have a different spline count, 89-91 trannies are just clutch differences and can use the 89-00 d-series clutch/flywheels (can't mix/match clutch/flywheel). The 92+ trannies use hydro-clutches, 91- use cable-actuated - not interchangable w/o swapping & rigging the entire deal.

Cluster won't be an issue - the ecu is what sets the redline.

IIRC, D16z6 is listed as 127bhp, D16a6 is 11?bhp. Both are usually around 100whp.

just use your stock drivers side mount, tranny mount, front mount, and rear mount...the z6 ones won't work......but you got everything you need

same as what was mentioned above...also u need to use the A6 timing block mount and temp sensor. the sensor goes into the same spot as the A6. u'll need to cut the Z6 timing cover in order for the A6 mount to fit. As for wiring, i use pgmfi.org for additional info.
