Default Dust shields

Has anyone removed the dust shields from behind their rotors? I tried, but it looks like you have to remove the hub to do so. If any one has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.

Yes, on the rears it is done properly by removing the hub from the spindle to gain access. The fronts are easier with some creative screwdriver manipulation.

I'm going to recommend purchasing a Helms manual for the Integra, it will provide alot of info to prevent the "newbie" questions

What, exactly, is the purpose of the dust shield?

Some people have used plyers. I used a 90 degree screwdriver I filed down to fit. Once you get the 3 screws out, you will have to cut it to get it out over the hub.

Unless you have a hard core track car, you don't really need to remove them.

I do road race quite a bit, I just got my scca liscense, and am planning to do all the events that are some what local to me. I already went to Roebling Road, Sebring, Moroso, and Homestead. I have a tendency to warp rotors after a couple of track session, and was hoping a little better ventilation would help, I ran some ducting lines to the brakes, but pulled the rotors off, and noticed the only way to slide the dust shields off was to pull the hubs. I'll try cutting them off, I didn't think about that, duh , thanx for the help guys.

For racing, dump them for sure. You will see a big improvement in rotor and pad life with them off.

Are you planning to come out for Honda Challenge?

It looks kool, not sure if I'm gonna be able to make it though, it is a bit of a hike from me. Well, if you see a black civic type-r with oz supper legarras, or a yellow ITR with all comptech stuff and a carbon hood, that's my team. Do you know what kind of entry fees there are, I didn't see them at first glance? Thanx, Later!

If I'm not mistaken, those are dates for driving schools. I already got my scca liscence, although for the price, the track time alone might be worth it. Anyway, thanx for all the help, I hope I can make it, in which case, I'll see you there. Later!

Tin snips for the rears, screwdrivers for the fronts...However, having done this a long while ago, my advice is DO NOT if this is your everyday driver and will see rain. The dust shields also act as a rain deflector from the inside of the wheel. When it's nice & dry out, air will be deflected onto the backside of the rotor to help cooling, but watch-out when it's wet...water replaced that deflected air and brakes don't like that(divide your brake power/response by 10!)

There are driver schools and races at the same weekend.

Agree. I wouldn't do this on a street car either. For a race car, esp a GSR with 1/2 the brakes of an ITR, it is a must.

Thanx for the advice, I think i've come up with a sort of compromise/solution, I'm gonna take the three inch brake ducting that I have, and run it to the dust shields, and using a 3 inch hole saw, cut a hole, and attach the break ducting to it. I think this way, it'll ventilate when on the track, and keep the water out when it rains. What do you guys think??
Thanx
