Default 1992 Prelude SI trim...opinions

im thinking about buyin a 92' Prelude SI. the car is cheap but the thing that im weary about is the mileage on it...its got 240,XXX on the motor..the guy says it was well mantained, oil changed every 3-5K.. he said still runs strong..

the question is, how long do these motors hold up? and would this be a decent purchase?

any input will be greatly appreaciated.

Unless it's been really well maintained, it's probably nearing the end of its life. Does he have papers for everything he's done? If you have the know how, do a compression test. Also, is it an auto? Cause that thing's probably on its way out too. How much does he want for it? You can get a "new" H23 for >$1000, and an H22 for >$1500 (if you reuse your transmission that is)

how's the body? rusted, dents, scratches,?

interior? riped, smells, etc.?

if the body is good, and the interior is all good i'd say 1700 bucks
with that milage you can count on as soon as you start to mod it and ream on it some, it'll probably crap out. Because since the car has probably been adult owned and never driven hard it's probably still got a little get up but for 240,000 i wouldn't count on it lasting to much longer.

the interior is mint..the dude is middle aged, so he hasnt riced it or have done anything stupid to the car. the body has *minor* rust on left quarter panel..
he replaced 2 fenders due to some dents or whatever...
he wants $1K for it...im really hoping for it to last this winter, and most of spring, b4 i think of a swap or anything in that manor..

Ive got a 94 Si and the motor died at 216000. My own disregard for the redline caused a spun bearing. If I had not driven it so hard im sure it would still be running. I say buy it and keep the revs down on it and your golden for probably another 50k. In the mean time, save for an h22 swap and when you get the money drop it in. And its rare that you find a body in as good a shape as you described. I wonder sometimes if I have more bondo and replacement panels than OEM sheet metal on mine. I say buy it. Its a great deal.

Yeah, for a $1000.00 you have quite a bit of money to play with. You can get that rust fixed for a few hundred...take it gentle on the engine until you can get a new one...I say go for it. And its also a 5-speed...so thats a plus right there. You wont have to do a auto/manual conversion which would be more.

Buy that thing man, do a h23 or h22 swap and go from there I've seen people selling shells with no motors for more than that here and still sell them, so I don't think there isn't anything to lose By the way I sold my old 92 with 268,000 and was still running fine
