Default Oil leak from firewall side of engine.

Well this has been getting at me lately..

I have developed an oil leak on the firewall side of the engine. And since the manifold runs right under it, I have a nice little smoke cloud every once in a while.

Now the wierd thing is, it seems to go away after a good bit of driving, but the smell still lingers.

I believe it's coming from where the oil filter seals to the block. I believe some how the surface got scored and is letting oil pass through.

Is there anything I can really do to fix this? I've heard if I use a filter with a silicon seal it might work. Is there anything else back there that could be leaking?

Thanks

make sure its the oil filter and not the oil pressure sending unit, had this happen to my friend and it was the oil sending unit right under the oil filter...

Hmmm, well I'm on a Honda forum. So it's not my Z... And well the engines in the other two are the same, give 5+ HP to the EX. So take a look at my signature.

Sounds like someone else may be asleep too.

You both would be well advised not to get my smart *** going; you wouldn't like what it had to say

Anyway..... Grab a can of spray Brake Cleaner (the stuff that smells like dry cleaning fluid) and wash the back of the block - from the valve cover to the oil pan. Drive the car for an evening (take the "significant other" out to dinner). In the morning, go back and look over the engine, there should be just enough of an oil trail to point to your problem
.

My money's on the oil pressure sensor
