jdm 96spec vs jdm 98spec
is the 98 spec worth the extra $$$.$$ over the 96spec? im talking engine swaps here from homo.
ive seen the video where both models were raced and the 98spec has a better off the line performance but the 96spec catches up ending with a tie.

They both have the same bottom end. 11:1 compression.
The '98 spec has the same intake cam as the Civic Type-R, which is just slightly larger (3 degrees more duration).
Other than that, the physical engines are identical.
The two biggest differences (in terms of acceleration performance) between the '96 and '98 specs are that the '98 comes with a stainless steel 4-1 header (often referred to as a JDM 4-1) and a 4.785 final drive ratio.
If you are looking at purchasing a complete swap, the '98 spec will have more attractive items, such as the transmission and header.
