hi i have a 1998 4-door 6cyl accord
it has a 3.0L vtec engine

whenever i am driving it... it will shift at higher than normal rpms..
it will like stay at 3,000rpms for a second or two and then it will JOLT or JERK and shift into the second gear... it will do this for about up to the 3rd gear and after that it is fine

even when i am going about 50KM/H... and if i hit the gas harder so it will hit a higher gear.. it will jerk

when i am getting out of first gear.. you can FEEL (not hear) a little grinding (or vibrating) noise when its shifting into second

please help...

There is a recall on certain 6th gen accord auto trannies, check out http://www.honda.com or call your local dealer to see if your car is affected.

Aside from that if it's not covered/affected then I would say try a fluid drain and flush but only with honda atf.

 

the 6th gen v6 auto trannys suck, there are only two kinds, ones that are broken, or ones that are going to break.

and unfortuantely they only extended the warranty on the 00+ acccords, so we will pay for thsi crap out of pocket.

what u might want to do is goto your dealer and ask them for some help with it. mabye they might be willing to help you out with the bill because it is a konwn defect.

or it could be a sight of failing alternator(thank you mr. honda for using cheap **** alternator), if the alternator is dead, the tranny will have a hard time shifting too, it happen on both my friends v6 before.
it was the charging system, not the auto trans

 

In the continuing effort to keep things straight; Honda Motors DID NOT initiate a "Recall" on 6th Generation Transmissions. They <U>extended the Warranty Coverage to 100,000 miles</U> to, at that time, "owners of record". These "Owners of Record" were informed by letter during 2002

"certain 2000 and 2001 Accords and Odysseys"

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced it will provide extended warranties on approximately 1.2 million Honda and Acura models equipped with automatic transmissions due to problems that may result in premature wear or failure. The extended warranty will cover affected transmissions for seven years or 100,000 miles.

The standard bumper-to-bumper warranty for Honda vehicles is three years or 36,000 miles, while Acura vehicles are covered for four years or 50,000 miles.

Vehicles covered by the extended warranty include:

2000 - 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey and Prelude
2000 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 TL
2001 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 CL

While only two percent of these vehicles have experienced these transmission problems, American Honda will provide extended transmission warranties on all potentially affected vehicles.

"Our priorities are making sure our customers are taken care of and reassured they can continue to depend on their Honda or Acura automobile for a long time to come," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president for American Honda.

There is usually plenty of warning to the driver that the transmission is not operating properly, such as slow or erratic shifting, giving them ample time to take the vehicle in for service.

American Honda will notify all owners of eligible vehicles via mail in the coming weeks."

That being said, We've seen Honda review (on a case by case basis) transmission failure claims. Some have met with Partial success, some not. In ALL cases, Honda (thru it's Dealers, has asked to the vehicle's <U>maintenance records </U>before committing to any discussions.

It may still be worth a phone call.
