Default Tranny Swap in Stock Civic....

Gots a 1997 civic LX 4 door. Completely stock, lookin at starting out to JDM. Kinda low on money right now so basically lookin for a list to begin to buy during the spring. One prob is, its a auto, I dont have bundles of cash in hand, but i wanna look into makin the car stick until I can afford a swap. Any ideas of what it might cost around for parts?

Really appreciate it.

It's all up to you, you cant have H-T tell you have to build YOUR car. It's abll about what you want. If it was me, I would drop it and get some wheels, someone else might want to get a lip or swap it, another person might want to get an intake and exhaust.

If you want my opinion, 4 doors aren't the way to go when going 'JDM'. I know it doesn't matter to you since you already bought the car, but maybe just consider doing some interior mods. That's the only reason I would like a four door. Maybe an in-dash DVD player, a nice sound system, some leather seats or something. Putting a wing, exhaust, and a CF hood on an LX 4 door is just going to make it look silly.

Well, thats much easier, however I know nothing about tranny swaps other than an H22 tranny into a 94 EJ. Search under tranny swap, you'll get tons of threads and maybe even a write-up or two.

I agree. There's absolutely nothing wrong w/ 4-doors. Escpecially if you want to go JDM. Does ferio mean anything to you?!!
fyi my next buy is going to be a 92-95 4door.

What do you want to know about the tranny?
How hard it'll be to switch it to manual?

It would be wise to swap and convert at the same time, instead of converting, then swapping later.

Not cheap. Look around websites and classifieds.

If you want JDM go to Japan. If you want to build a car how you want it, then do it. Unless you like all the JDM hype, then go for it!

Japan is basicly the Del Sol, the sedan, and the hatch. Coupes weren't normal production like here in the USA. That's why JDM sedan parts are easy to find, and JDM coupe-only parts are virtually non-existant.

My suggestion is to sell your car and buy one already with a swap. Much cheaper, easier, and you can usually sell it for what you paid for it.

If you do want to go through with it: $100 for an LX 5spd/$200 for an EX 5spd, $50 for pedals, $100-200 for used lines and master/slave cylinders, $100 or something for mounts, $100 for shifter/linkage/interior parts. You can get them cheaper if you really look around, those prices are just a rough estimate.

Trade sounds nice, but the uncommon 4 dr deal sounds like a good base for me to work off of.

Bump.

yeah... definitely i would keep auto for now and then in the future plan for a swap.. in my opinion go for a drop then wheels.. oh and for suspension i would either go with tein s tech springs... something cheap but reliable... i got tein super street coilovers on my ek hatch and they are perfect... so i think thats the way to go...

You should keep it! My last project was a 97 4 door lx auto too. If your serious about a motor/tranny swap i would reccomend just trading or buying another one thats already a 5 speed. Here was mine, auto with a 65 shot.
