Default S2000 for endurance racing, Any weak points?

Hey all!

Not sure this is the right thread for the topic but here goes. We´re thinking about purchasing a race-prepared S2000 for endurance racing in Sweden. The cars engine and transmission are standard and we plan to keep it that way. All other bits are replaced with the proper upgrades. Floating 330mm discs, upgraded ECU, standard injectors, full roll-cage, customized airbox, oil coolers, yellow KONIs, standard clutch and flywheel. All in all, 950kgs incl. fluids with 210bhp@wheels.

Are there any special weaknesses in the S2000 that could be critical? We won´t be using R-tyres for classification purposes during races. I understand that the oil is v e r y important due to high revs but anything else we should think of?

Appreciate all answers!

Many thanks!!
/Johan - Sweden

No, it´s supposed to be standard. Since we will be using street tyres I´m not expecting any massive g-forces. Should I reconsider?

Thanks and regards!

Baffled oil pan and an oil cooler is a good idea. I upgraded to a Koyo full aluminum radiator, hoping it'd help a little bit. Seamwelds would accompany your roll cage I'm assuming, so that's that. Urethane bushings would be nice if the car's experiencing the rigors of endurance racing. Oh yea, full underbody pinnings.

just curious to how you got the 950kg figure...that would equal to about 2100 pounds. is it just me or does that seem very light for our cars?

also I would baffle the pan. it wouldn't hurt

The car is stripped out, completely. Lexan windows, no interior at all, nothing except an engine under the hood and many of the large steel areas have been hole-drilled (is that really a word??). It´s a small car, I thought it seemed reasonable. What does your cars weigh standard?

Have a good one!

2835/2860 lbs, depends on where you look. I'm aiming for something under 2600.

Ok, it´s fitted with a 10 row oil cooler c/w aeroquip braided hoses and SS fittings. Mocal enginge sandwich plate for the oil cooler.

We will baffle the can, thanks!

But there are no know issues with the S2000 ? LSD is durable, gearbox and so on?

Ok, so should be possible then. We´ve got a Volvo S60 @ 2600lbs so I figured all was in order. These aren´t street cars so insulation, AC, electrics and so on are all gone. That saves m a n y lbs.

wow...2100lbs for a race S2000 is freaking light... mine was 2400lbs...i could have maybe found another 50-75lbs to get rid of, but not much more than that.

does yours include a hardtop? who's is it? there was a guy named Garret in England who took all the extra wirinig, etc... out of his and got it close to that light....

post pics please!

thanks

o ya... my car survived almost half a season until the tranny wouldn't go into 1st gear.... but the 2nd tranny made it the rest of that season, plus all of the next and then it wouldn't go into 1st....

and.... i had an oil starvation issue at the end of the first season.... new engine = $3500 installed..... got a baffled oil pan for the new engine and it was running fine even after a full race season.

Pics will be posted as soon as we bought the beauty which feels like a given now. I don´t think the sellers name is Garret. It´s a white S2000 with a black carbon hood. Still...$3500 for a new engine is aLOT but not insane. Do you get the japan-spec for that money?

Baffles it is , THX!!!

The $3500 was $2200 for a new shortblock from honda and about $1300 for installation, dyno breakin and tuning on VAFC.

the baffled oil pan or accu-pump is the way to go!
