Default Stock Flywheel: b16a2 vs ITR

Hey,

Searched a bit but did not find any good info.

I know the ITR flywheel weighs about 15 pounds (approx 7kg). But how much does the stock flywheel on the b16a2/3 weigh?

And i guess the ITR flywheel will just bolt right onto my stock b16a2 engine/tranny, am i right?

Thanks for all info.

So would i feel difference at all with a ITR flywheel in my b16 then? Or should i just go for a even lighter aftermarket one?

Thanks.

What flywheels (7 to 10lbs) are good at that price then? $150 - 200?

I like clutchmasters. Has a replaceable ring surface so you don't have to bring it to a machine shop to get resurfaced. Just buy a new ring.

ditto. Cutchmaster. the lighter flywheel also makes it a lot easier to start your car under cold conditions because the clutchmaster is so much lighter

As others have suggested, Clutch Masters (or Fidanza, which manufactures the Clutch Masters flywheels).

Sweet except no one ever posted the right weight for the itr flywheel... its 14lbs. stock b16 is almost 18lbs. It will help and for $60, I think its worth it.

I don't know this for sure, but since the OP drives an EK coupe, should he go lighter than 10-12 lbs? Wouldn't a 7.5-9 lb flywheel be better for say, an EG hatch or something?

For me, it would not be worth the time and effort of swapping out a stock B16 flywheel for an ITR unit.

Thats your call. Perhaps you don't understand how much of a difference 4lbs makes on the rotating assembly?

In truth, it's not a tremendous difference when moving from 18 lbs. to 14-15 lbs. My point was that swapping the flywheel is not a 15 minute job, and the improvement made by the ITR flywheel over the standard B16 unit would not personally justify the time and effort involved. I have first-hand experience in going from the stock ITR flywheel to a Clutch Masters (approximately half the weight), and even being one of the lightest flywheels available, the difference is not as extreme as many people make it out to be.

Well, it made a good difference on my B18C... Of course that had higher compression, big cams, etc..

I just figured a lighter car would be better for a lighter car, is all. An EG is lighter than an EK. True you will rev faster because of less rotating mass, therefore accelerate faster, but you will also have the engine go down in speed faster. Please correct me if I'm wrong, somebody
