15x6.5 or 15x7
the 15x7 would logically seem to have better handling capability, that's what i thought too. but i read an article in which the 15x6.5 had more more g grip than 15x7 because of lateral stress if i recall correctly. when a turn is made the stress is put on the walls of the tire and according to this test the 15x6.5 had a greater contact patch in the end. a google search in traction might be useful as well. this is just something i vaguelyremember reading, but i think it's correct.

this test was done on a b16 del sol and it was in some car book i randomly picked up at barnes and nobles. the del sol would be a similar vehicle in roughly weight ,size, and also ff. i imagine this question would fare better in the road and track forum. best of luck.
7".
There is a marked improvement in feel of a 205/50-15 RT-215 Azenis on the autocross course when going from a 6.5" to a 7" wheel width. I do know know if the RT-615 behave the same way though because I have not tested them yet.

Interesting ....but not completely true ...with the proper ride height, allignment, and tire size the contact patch would improve on a wider wheel.
Although not everything on a race car can really relate to street driven abilities...they dont run wider tires/rims just because it looks cool.
I'd go 15x7 ....well actually I already did ....huge improvement...alot of it was the tires ....but i've driven pretty hard on the same Azenis on some 15x6.5's ..and you could notice some sway ....

i've never heard anything along these lines before- i'd like to read it if you have the link.
i do know that back to back testing with an appropriate tire (205/50/15 azenis) shows that the 7 is a little faster and feels better.
it really comes down to the tire you're going to run and availability of size/budget, but the quick answer to your question is going to be 7in.
