S2000 clutch slipping??????????????
i have a brand new 2005 S2000 it only has 175 miles on it and i know i really shouldn't be getting on it yet, but i can't help it!!!!!!!! it's an S2000. when i shift it at high rpm's the clutch slips. has anyone had this problem??????
I think it's really recommended that you not rev past 5.5k until after 600 miles.
And the MY04+ S2000s have a clutch delay valve. That's why the clutch slips a little when shifting at high RPMs.

It was put there to prevent ham-fisted drivers from putting too much shock through the drivetrain, pushing the diff out of the rear housing. A security measure, to say, but I've never had problems with it. I drive like a grandpa
, and haven't had the clutch smoke too bad, even on track days.

really, i don' t,know to me it feels like ****!!!! i,ve been racing cars for 15 yrs, mustangs, camaros, integras,& civics. it just feels like i'm gonna kill this clutch. doesn't even chirp 2nd. i understand they don'twant people to blow up the rear end but **** if i wanted a insight i would have bought one!!! lol
Depends on how you drive it. I can chirp the rears braking hard and downshifting into 2nd, the clutch has nothing to do with it.

belive me i can drive....i've had a 10 sec mustang, and a low 12 sec integra 1/4.. i can drive... i just don't like a clutch slipping feel... i'd rather be sidways when i hit 2nd & 3rd....not slipping.
I'm not saying YOU can't drive, I'm saying it takes a bit to get used to it. If you want to get rid of the delay all together, get an AP1 clutch slave cylinder. Done.
oh ok...i figured it might be int the slave cylinder...thanks for the info..yours doesn't slip bad when you shift real fast at 8k rpm's?

You should probably think about getting yourself a 1/4 mile car.

I can chirp into 2nd and 3rd. I've spent a long time on rev-matching and heel-and-toe, then throttle and clutch control (think 8 years worth). I've pulled the tranny apart twice, the clutch shows no sign of glazing.
i have a 1/4 mile car (mustang),a every day car (turbo civic),and a truck (ridgeline), i wanted a highway car thats why i got the s2000. but when i'm racing another car on the highway and power shifting through the gears and the clutch is slipping that's not cool with me...
try buying another clutch...
sorry to butt in but don't you think it's kinda early to be power shifting this car??? if not then don't come to my dealership and complain that you burn oil at 30k...
honda doesn't warranty idiots

You can give him advice, just don't patronize people over the net. No need to use the word idiot. He came forward with a legit question. Also, it's his car, so if his clutch grinds down to the bolts at 5k miles, that's his problem. If you don't know how to be courteous and helpful, don't post.
i apologize for my bitterness....
the idiot comment was not called for...
it's just i've gone through w/ this w/ 2 s2000 owners this summer and it got nowhere...
once again... sorry for the bitterness...
my only advice is: don't beat on a brand new car.... and if you do... don't take it back to the dealer because we can tell. break it in properly and it will last as long as you keep up your oil changes...
oh and just for celebration... here's a pic of one my buddies (he's a honda tech here) hard top we just installed (they made 5 in every color this year and won't make any more until 2009 unless u get it w/ the car).

thanks for the apology, cause i'm not an idiot. i happen to be the shop foreman of an acura dealership in westchester, n.y. i'm just not familiar with the s2000..and when customers come in with burned clutches if they are nice and truthful about what happened to their clutches i usually good will them for them...but that is just me... i'm a nice guy...
You have to understand, most people that can't resist the urge to hold back end up wrapping their S around a tree, sliding it under a semi, or something worse. Nothing in your Mustang will prepape you for the S; power oversteer is pretty much non-existent except from extremely hard angles at the limit of traction, or in the wet.
