Default Replacing lower balljoin on 02 RSX Type S

I pwn3d a lower balljoint and had to replace it. I ordered it from NAPA and it came to like 65$ and some change. When I removed the old balljoint from the spindle I didn't notice any lock ring. When I got the new one, it had a lock ring. Is it mandatory that the lock ring is used?

Please, I really don't care for your opinions, I only want replies with expirenced situations.

Lock ring? Can you describe in more detail, or show a pic?

I think im the only one that owns a DC5 that works on there own car.

Theres a steel circular ring thats not a complete circle. Your suppose to clip it on the bottom of the ball joint to lock it in place. Hence the name. Lock ring. Type S OEM ball joints dont come with lock rings, there just pressed in.

bah, I have another question.

I was removing the axels and it seems the passenger axel which is connected to the half shaft didn't want to come out. Is there a pin holding the passenger axel into the half shaft that im not seeing? I tried tugging on the axel carefully , making sure not to seperate the axel and all that happend was it was pulling the axel and the half shaft. I looked and couldn't find a pin or ring anywhere holding it in.. Any help?

have you pulled out Honda axles before? there very tight. People ive talked to have had to use a crowbar or two, and a friend helps.

Regarding the balljoint, I dont have the RSX helms book on me, but for 65$ it seems you coulda gotten a OEM one from a dealer. Off the top of my head, I don't think there is a snap ring on top.

Napa isnt 100% on their parts, sometimes they include certain pieces to make lists of **** complete, if ya get my drift. Like if you buy a certain drain plug bolt, you cant get it without also getting the washer with it.

You're not the only one, you're just the only one that's HAD to

I'm keeping mine all stock until my warranty expires.

IRC, lock ring not necessary, but it can't hurt either.
