Default Idea for bodywork but questions..

Hi there,
I have a spare trunk lid from an EG (92-95) hatchback
and im thinking of shaving the license plate area
im experienced in welding
my question is to shave it, should i fill the empty space with something like alot of body filler, bondo or wtvr..
cuz i know im gonna weld a sheetmetal plate over, but should i fill it in aswell? to make sure its strong and wont flex or bend or rust inside of it.
if anyone has experience in doing this, some tips would be great.
thank u alot!

One question.....where are you going to put your license plate?

I wouldnt bother filling the void with anything other than that 3M spray you can weld threw.

do not use bondo... i paid a shop to weld up my license plate on the trunk (tag relocated to rear bumper) and they used a shitload of bondo... my stereo system managed to pop out all of the bondo

yea i know bondo isnt very good for that type of work, and i said i will be welding it, i was just wondering if i should fill it in with anything before welded it flat n shut.

well, what i would do is weld the hole up... use a thin layer of bondo (less than an 1/8th so be good with the welding) and then go on the inside of the trunk, drill a hole (or use an existing one) that goes into the hole you just welded up and fill it with structual foam (not the great-stuff you buy at home depot)
