D serise pistons interchangeables, rings, bearings help please
As most of you know I need new piston rings due to a jackass telling me my cylinder walls were like glass to hone them.......
Rather not have any comments on that please.
Anyway, I am about to buy some but I wanted yalls professional opinions/advice/help before I do anything.
Motor: 1.5L SOHC D15B7 same head-ported, 200 miles old!, D16Y8 head gasket, stock. intake, 2.25 SS Mandrel bent exhaust.
Someone mentioned to get oversized rings.
someone also mentioned to get bigger pistons.
and someone also mentions to put (intergra)? pistons in to raise compression? What integra?
I might have them laying around, I just wanted to see what would YOU do?
Id like to raise compression, I mean if I have the intergra pistons then why not?
So ill slap the pistons in, and get oversize RINGS
ALSO, Honing my cylinders....... Need advice on that
this time it will be done RIGHT! with the pistons OUT of the cylinders, So ill hone them, make nice cross hatches, then clean the **** out of the block!
also where would I get Rings? and about how much is the cost?
I found some.5 ovberbore rings here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem
I could put them on my d15b7 stock pistons?
and Im aware ill need bearings as well!
thank you once again for viewing my post! Thank you

i think those pistons will get you in the 11's, i don't think you'll need oversize valves. won't make a difference on that engine, as for rings, i would buy oem, i'm not sure about getting oversize or not though
that would be aight 11.1 compress, I wasnt talking about vaqlves though.
and the rings, I figured the cylinders might be worn, so I need eather bigger piston or bigger rings ?

actuall you did say oversize valves, but oh well. i don't see why you would need oversize piston rings unless you got oversize pistons, all the honing is for is so that the new rings can have a fresh surface to seat against, or else they wont ever seat properly, unless you bore is warper and has scoring marks there is no reason to oversize it, unless of course you want to.
ok, thank you, I just figured there will be a lil play in the piston due to the cylinder walls getting thin over time. So I figured slightly bigger rings, but if you stay stock size, ill do that.
Can I drop the pistons/crank etc, with the motor still in the car?
I was looking for a whole new motor, but if I can do that, I got someone PROFESSIONAL to do it for me.

i doubt honing the cylinders will increase the bore all that much, remember the rings are spring loaded. the best way to do it would be to have a shop with the proper honing machines do it, but you can do it yourself with the proper honing tools, and it might be a pain in the *** to take the crank out with it still in the car, but i'm sure it can be done, might want to ask some shops or your professional guy your talking about
ok cool,
Now what about pistons? I did a seaqrch and only thing I found was integra ls RODS will fit but ill have to shave lil off the pistons.........
So i probably dont have to worrrie about getting oversized rings?

and i highly reccomend this website for all of your d-series questions..
because 90% of any d-series questions would be followed with " just buy a b16".

the integra pistons you would be looking for are the p29's.. out of the 86-88 integra.. its actually the twin cam d series.... or the twin cam zc.. just beware when u get these pistons it will raise ur compressoin to about 12:1 or around that area depending on headgasket.. also.. yes d-series.org is a good site for all d series questions
well, thats what im fixing to build...
z6 head+block with d16a1 pistons+rods+crank.
ive been told that imgoing to be the 1st person to use an a1 crank in a z6 block..
im scared

there read that, lots of good info on N/A d series, i would keep your stock rods and just have them shot peened

well, ill foreget about the pistons for now, I juts want a NON smoking motor, so heres what I decided to do, Get new rings, and ill replace the rod bearings, and properly hone the cylinders.
Now I was thinking, I guess I could take the head off, drop the oil pan/windage tray, expose the rod bolds, take the bottom half of the rod off and push the piston out through the top, Hone the cylinders, and clean the hell out the cylinder walls with? Someone mentioned Kerosine?
I got a d16z6 head gasket, and after i put new rings, rod bearings, ill basically have a new motor! Ill have to do a break in motor procces as well, 5k shifts or lower..........
Now if someone could direct me to place to buy OEM rings/bearings for a fair price Id appriciate it
