Since the R got stolen 4 weeks ago, i've been looking into buying an S2000. I would prefer to buy an 04/05 with teenage miles on it. I've been seeing them for around $25k, give or take a couple thousand.

But now i'm seeing 00/01s for upper teen prices. If I went this route, I could pay cash with the insurance check and have no car payment.

Anyway, I saw an ad for a 2000 Silverstone with only 33,000 miles on it. I called the owner today and he says it's in excellent condition all around and is the 3rd owner. He's only had it for 8 months. What is the right price to pay for this car? I'm thinking around $16-17k. Does this sound right? Any comments or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

33k miles is pretty good for a MY2000. I will say 16-18k, depending on how the car looks and drives in person.

 

Leo, do not buy an 00 or 01 s2000. I told you that millions of times...You wan't and 02 or higher, trust me. Your related to me and **** about your car like i am. You need the 02 or above...

I gotta weigh out my options here. A clean 2000 for $17,000 or 2004 for $24,000 with only 15k less miles. $7000 is a lot of money when you think about it. If I got the 2000, i'd be less ****/paranoid/neurotic about it. I'd certainly drive it and leave it parked much more than the 2004 S or my Type R. Less to worry about.

you can get an 02-03 for 19k-22k

 

id rather but the 2000 knowing its $7000 less ... then just buy a hardtop ... dylan is not smart like that

i know the 00's sometimes have some bugs with them, and yes the 02's also do. I don't like the carpet center console, clutch buzz, minor tranny problems, rear window...

Main thing here is that hes becoming impatient and can't buy the 1st good deal s2000 because he wants one now

Yes, driving the Taurus rental is making me even more miserable. No sense in buying an 02 for $3k more with the same mileage. Once you start cracking $20k, you may as well just go to an 04 for $4k more than that. It never ends...

make sure you have money around for a hardtop...get whats in your budget, not what i tell you to you have more bills than me...

i believe it's from mastergrade... easy to install.....if you have any knowledge you can do it..

Nothing wrong with the 00 and 01s. IMHO, they represent the most pure and raw version of the S2000. Those years are ever so slightly lighter and have the most agressive factory suspenion tuning. I would not pay $2000-4000 more for an 02-03 vs an 00-01 given similar condition and mileage. If you can find an 00-01 with the mileage and condition you are looking for, go for it.

Also, I see you are in the Northeast here. This is definitely the right time of year to be buying an S2000 around here. You can save around 10% or more buying now as opposed to waiting for spring. I would think that you should be able to get the car you describe for $16,000, maybe even less.
