Default alternator problem

ok. yesterday and this morning when i go to crank my 2000 accord 4 cyl. the battery was dead. ok, so i jump it off, no problem runs good all day except i have a battery and brake light come on. so today i get home and go to charge the battery and find that it has boiled some of the acid out of the battery. not good, so i bring it in to the Napa here in town and they put a battery checker on it, and its good. so i crank it and the reading jumps to 16 volts and starts climbing. so i was wondering, is this a common problem with hondas and is there by any chance a recall or do i have to get my alternator fixed or a new one? any help would be great.

thanks guys

Unfortunately, it's not a common enough problem to warrant a recall; but since I've joined this forum, I've discussed this twice.
The alternator (or more precisely the Voltage Regulator) is overcharging, and it will require replacing.
You've been lucky so far. This is normally accompanied by blown bulbs, motors, the occasional ECM, warped battery plates and the rare Hydrogen Gas explosion.

I believe the Denso Alternator can be repaired, and the voltage regulator is available separately. (#19 in supplied linked illustration)

But you may find that an aftermarket re-man Alternator could well be cheaper.

I suspect there are no physical differences between to 2dr/4dr versions, but both honda and an Aftermarket sourse:
http://replacement.autopartswa...=true

call out different Part numbers
Honda:
2000 LX 2dr: 31000-PAA-L71RM
2000 LX 4dr: 31100-PAA-A01RM

Aftermarket: Denso Reman
2000 LX 2dr: FA000-106870
2000 LX 4dr: FA000-106871
