call your local DMV.. they should all the LEGAL information you will need to get it registered. but from what i heard it can be a pita.. so you might not have your car on the road for a few months while the process is getting taken care of.
btw.. my friend is looking at getting a JDM SIR imported as well, where did you get yours from?

from what I read a while ago in the other topics, the only car that can be registered in cali was the skyline. You can also get the jdm car registered, but i read that it is only a track car and not a registered car you can drive on the road. Lastly, the other part of that track car thing was that after a certain amount of time/miles, the car has to be crushed for some reason or another. I'm not saying its true, its just what i read. If you really want to look for it use the search button.
no not just the skyline.. its ANY vehicle that was NOT manufactured in the US.. ie.. skyline, 120, sylvia.. etc
i heard you CAN get other cars imported, but its just time consuming, and a real pain.

different states have different rules. i imported a landrover to tennesee, reg'ed it west va, and had it shipped to me in ny. who said the south wasn't good for anything?

i say look for US crx and switch everything over...i know a shop that can make it right hand conversion..! red zone in fremont,ca!
dont switch vins.. if the cops find out, theyll assume the car is stolen.
if the car is registered legally, the cops wont need any paperwork to prove that.. because itll already be proven during the registration process.

if he changes VIN, then he needs to use a registered firewall engine bay
so I think it will be better to use a registered EF and make it rhd and swap about everything... and have a receipt of the dash with its VIN

there are plenty of ways to do it right. and there are plenty of threads around of people who have already gone through the hoops in cali. i've never had any police issues other than simple curiosity with my rhd truck, and it looks a LOT less legal than any honda.

I can attest to the registration process being a pain in the ****, and my car is only from Canada! What I did was drive the car over from Ontario to NY, then have it shipped from NY to Cali (friends of relatives so it was rather cheap), then do a bunch of random stuff to collect the proper customs forms free of charge that I was supposed to pay levies on...for both sides.
Long story short, unless you're willing to invest some serious time researching/making calls, pay someone to do it for you.
