Almost a type R owner....
Well a type r went up for sale on base here... His asking price is $14,500..
1998 CW Type R
54,000 miles
Mods:
Comptech Exhaust/Header
AEM Pullies/Fuel Rail/Intake
Fluyidine Radiator
Short Shifter
Cons :
A dent in 1 fender
Scratched front lip
1 wheel has some rock chips.
He said it books at 16k.. I don't see where it books that high. I even told him that. I said screw it I'll play his game. I applied for a loan for 14.5 for a Type R and they said the value of the car is too low and won't give me that amount for the car. They agreed to 12,000. I called him up and told him hey Im already preapproved for 12,000 and they wont give me 14,000 due to the value of the car. He wouldn't budge!
Am I the only one that thinks 14.5 is outrageous much less 12?...
This guy needs to snap and sell me his R dang it
Give it to someone who would actually mod it and treat it right

Good miles with body work needed though.
I think 12.5k was a fair offer.
He just posted it for sale though.. so I'll let it sit for a bit then offer 12 again.
Market for fwd cars up here isn't high.

From what you say, the body damage is small kine'. You think your offer is fair, he thinks his offer is fair. Bid deal. If your both hell bent on being happy then you will negotiave a price instead of feeling like your "low balling/high balling" each other.
If you really wanted the car you'd ask him if he's willing to negotiate then meet his price. That's generally how it goes. Rather than crossing your arms and waiting for the other party to budge.

I wouldn't come off of my 98 for less than 14-15 even in that condition. If you KBB any of our cars, it says less than most would be willing to sell for. Good luck talking him down, I doubt he'll budge though.

It seems that there is a slight premium on the 97-98s... mostly due to the limited amount. There is little chance (as you have seen) of a bank giving the asking price for a loan on a 97-98. You should have no trouble getting a 00-01 financed at a higher amount. You could easily get 15-17K on a loan for a 00-01. I've seen a good amount of 00-01s selling recently for 14-17K. The monthly payment difference would be little between say 12K and 15K ($50-$75 per month max). Good luck finding a good one... and yes you MUST buy one.

BS, I KBB'd one earlier. You have to go by RETAIL value not private party.

Retail value doesn't mean anything when you are selling your vehicle...
Like I said though.. this is the first day he posted the ad. I'll just wait and save up some money. If it's not sold.. I'll come back and offer $12,500 or 13,000... and see what he says. I'll keep ya posted.

Retail value means everything in the world for our cars. Take my old car for example. 01 PY ITR with 70k, retail was exactly what I got for the car. Anyone willing to sell their R for less is either in a bind or has no idea what they have in front of them. Like I said, good luck trying to talk him down. I know if it were my car I wouldn't budge. I'm not trying to undermine you at all, I just know what they are worth. I only had to wait a month before mine sold. Maybe in your case, since the car is secluded and most buyers wouldn't fly to alaska to drive back, you may have some bargining room, though I had my latest R shipped to me from wisconsin so that is another route.

ah sorry thats what i meant, I dont usually go by retail, its always really alot higher then what someone would pay.

14.5 is a fair price for that car...unless you can take a look in person and find some defect to use it to your advantage to lower the price. i wouldn't expect the seller to go below 13.5.
on another note... i got a buddy with a 93 civic hatch cx w/ h22a w/ lsd dropped into it... drop me a line on akms and ill get you the details... he asking $6500.. very clean and not riced out car... it went 13.4@ 103 on street tires... he doesnt drive it much so it hasnt been whored out all around ak like some of the other busted *** honda's around.
