bad axle or bad trans
i just swapped in good axles a week ago and the drivers side started clicking 2 days ago, and i now i was driving up a hill and the car just lost all power it feels really smooth when flooring it like there is not direct connection between the wheels and engine, any ideas? how do you tell the difference between failure in transmission and failure in an axle
Fairly hard question to answer on a forum but if your axle is bad enough to prevent you from moving then it should not be to hard to to find out. Your axle is a solid link to the tranny so if your axle is not moving the wheel then it is very broken (most likely at the cv joint). Jack the front end of your car up on jack stands, put it in 1st gear and inspect the axle, this will tell you prettty quickly where the problem is. if you can't find anything wrong with the axle it is probably in your trans. I have seen and had axles go bad within a few days of install and it really depends on where the axle comes from, if it is reman it may not have been properly built or may be using a part that should not have been reused, if this is the case then return it for another and chances are your next one will be ok (I have had to replace mine 4 times until I got a good one, live and learn huh?). I hope this will help you, good luck.
checked out the axles today, both of them are good and are fully inserted into the transmission. my opinion is that the clutch has failed because the car feels like its not fully connected to the drivetrain, so im going to tear it apart replace it
Your description is vague. I would go through some better diagnostics if I were you. Get some help from an experienced friend. It could be something simple... Example... Is your clutch cable misadjusted?????
When you fix cars, you have to rule out things before you take out a tranny. My advice to you... buy a repair manual.
