Default Winter Driving

Hello. I live in Minnesota and recently returned home on leave to drive my 2000 Prelude and had to drive in a snowstorm. In the span of about 20 miles I lost traction and spun around about a dozen times. I had just put brand new stock tires on the front and rotated the decent shape fronts to the rear. I had planned on adding a subtle body kit and rims when I returned, but now I'm not sure if this car will work for me if I cannot drive it year around.

I have 2 questions:

Are there tires that I can put on the stock rims to make this car drivable in the Minnesota winter?

I cracked the fiberglass and scuffed up my driver's side door. How expensive will a new matching door be?

Thank you for advice. I'm pretty sick to my stomach right now, I've wanted a prelude for years and now I don't know if it will work out...

first thing how fast were you going? try a good year all weather tire it should work. another thing you might wanna try is puting a couple of cinder blocks in the trunk. it might help. the price for the door depends. how bad is the dent? is it rippled. if not it will only cost a couple of hundred to get it fixed. good luck and slow down.

Where in MN, my 95 lude is all over the road with my summer only tires.
All i can say is keep the revs low and your eyes on the road.

Don't listen to this guy. I'm sure he means well though.

You'll want a dedicated Winter tire since you're in Minnesota. A set of Bridgestone Blizzaks will make the car drive VERY well in the snow. Also, don't put weight in the trunk, that's for rear-wheel drive cars. If you could, strap something to the hood. (lol.. don't even try it) But honestly, look at studded tires, or dedicated snow tires on http://www.tires.com, or http://www.tirerack.com, they're the only thing that can handle that much snow... all seasons are great, but only if you get little amounts of the white stuff. Take it easy though, you don't own a snow car.

i agree, brigestone blizzaks are the ****! they make the car feel like a awd subaru, no joke. i got a set that was barely used on steel rims for $130 bucks! best money spent on the lude, ever

I have Bridgestone Blizzaks on my stock rims that I use for the winter. They are freakin awesome in the snow. A little expensive, but well worth it.

Thank you everyone for your input. I supposed I didn't say, but it's a 5th Gen, and I was only going 30-35 mph, I was taking it very easy. I will check out the Blizzaks for sure though! Thanks again.
