92 timing belt * help with crank,cam,balance-shaft seals.
I am slowly progressing thru a timing belt change on my 92 Accord and will soon be at the point (this afternoon) where I will be replacing the shaft seals on the crank, cam, and balance shaft. A little how-to would be appreciated. I assume it is simply a matter of gently prying out the old ones, after removing the sprockets, and tapping in the new ones.
- if the old ones are not leaking, should I even bother? What are the chances of bothching this and should I just leave well enough alone (I am approaching 300,000 miles)?
- if I replace the old ones should I apply a light coat of oil to install them without damage?
- any tips or suggestions?
Everything has gone slow and steady so far and the water pump is going to be replaced also. Any input would be appreciated. As always, thanks.

i would definately replace the seals,, also make sure to install a balancer shaft seal retainer pick 1 up at the dealer 5-6 dollars ,,,,,,On the seals first off DO NOT put oil on the outside of the seal,, where the open side is , put some grese in the groove it will keep the spring from poppint out easily, also put a light film of honda-bond on the outside edge of the seals, Make sure you start the seals evenly ......
There is info on shaft seals at the link below

Really nice guy that made that webpage.
You might also cruise to the T-belt commentary and check out replacing the "oil pump" seal, none of the seals will make it to the second T-belt change, they will all be leaking by around 150k miles. Another place for T-belt info that might help you is http://www.cybertrails.com/~be....html
Best of luck I hope this helps you

Thanks, all. Couple more questions.
- Can I use Permatex Ultra Grey instead of Honda-Bond. Is it similar enough?
- By a thin coat of grease I assume you mean on the inside (shaft surface), and by grease just a typical high temp moly?
Thanks again.

ultra grey is the same stuff, yes a little petrolum grease on the shaft surface of the seal, actually on some seals Honda supplies them with a silicone grease in the groove..Dow Corning 111 silicone grease is what I have used for years without any problems
