Best PROVEN motor oil for a JDM B16a
i use mobil one for this simple reason
its the oil that ferrari and porche puts in their cars. plus its always good to minimize friction as much as possible on a motor that revs like a b16 can.

There are quite a few good motor oil company's. But mobil 1 is not a real synthetic, it is a mineral based synthetic and not a true synthetic oil, but is still good. But the theory goes is that you can move up to a full true synthetic but you can't move down. So from that i'll name some of the top company's out there: Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil, NEO, Oil Xtreme. Those all have been proven to be better than mobil 1 or any oil you can get at a regular store like target, wal-mart etc. As for me, ever since i got the motor up and running i've only used mobil 1, but just recently switched to a full true synthetic and i noticed that it smoothed the revs, and quieted my car at idle. HTH

I'm using Mobil one right now so if I get Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil, NEO, or Oil Xtreme, I can just use it from there? Do they carry those at your local auto parts store?
mobil 1 is not a real synthetic, it's mineral based so therefore not a true synthetic oil, I usd to use it but then I switched to royal purpal 5w/30 and I love it I use it in JDM ZC and in my JDM b18c I have read reviews about different synthetic oils and royal purpal was rated the best even better then red line. I didn't break down like the rest

I used mobil 1 in my ZC and after about 1000 miles it started seeping at the gaskets... I went back to conventional and im all sealed up again...
Not a good idea to use synthetic on high mileage engines that have run on conventional their whole life

Yeah if your motor is still pretty low on miles like under 50k i say you can do the switch. But remember you can switch around with different full synthetics but you can't move down to like a mobil 1 anymore!! RIght now i've been using royal purple 5 30 and i'm loving it, but now im going to try amsoil, cuz i too have heard it's better. So i'll let everyone know if they are in about 2-3 weeks.
It's so annoyingly nice to hear people say
"oh this is better, oh that's better, I heard this, I heard that" without any supporting facts. Do a search, I'm certain there's a link to a good resource somewhere in the archives.

Royal Purple all the way!!!! Stuck some 5w30 in my bro's JDM B16 and it ran smoootthhh (with more power as well!) it's expensive, but worth the $
Mobil 1 is indeed a full synthetic. All it could otherwise be is a synthetic blend or a conventional oil. As far as being made from mineral oil, all oils are whether synthetic or not. Basically, synthetic oils are made by polymerizing (basically just 'assembling') small molecules like ethylene into larger ones. And ethylene (and other such feedstock chemicals) is just a byproduct of petroleum refining.
