Default Hard to beleive almost 10 years!

I was cleaning up some things around the house & shop a couple of days ago & found all the magazines & info I had kept for so long about the R. I use to dream of what it would be like to own an R or @ least have the chance to drive 1. It's just so hard to beleive this year (fall of 06) it will be 10 years since I first saw the R in a magazine, read about it but had no idea of what it was. Only heard about it & never thought I'd be driving 1 today. And to think @ the time I was driving a Suzuki Swift GT! It looked like a GEO Metro on crack! Check out www. ssgti.com & you'll see what I drove before the R. Felt like I'd climbed into a rocket!

i actually first discovered the R in 2000 at an acura dealership in pasadena, ca. it was the only R at that dealership and it was in the showroom looking beautiful. before i saw that R i couldn't stand seeing so many ricer integras on the road, but the R was just different. anyway, that R was already sold and the salesperson wouldn't even let me open the car to sit inside. so i had to put a security deposit and wait 2 months to get my own. can't believe that was already 6 years ago. anyway, i love my R also, and sorry for the long post. i just had to share.

I remember about hearing of the Type-R not until around 1997/1998 when I just got out of the Army. It was all hear-say of how good it was and none of my friends had any pictures nor had any of us seen one, or knew of anyone who had one.

I remember seeing one that year around the Tukwilia area in Washington. It was a CW 98' and the guy had the whole aftermarket Mugen kit on it. I remember the guy was asian with some super thick prescription glasses. I tried to keep up with him in my GS-R to get a better look at the car, but kept getting boxed in with traffic.

That was the only one I saw in the whole Seattle area at the time. It wouldn't be for another six years and owning three 1995 GS-R's later that I would finally purchase my own.

I remember first seeing one at my Acura dealer in '97 when I was 17. Someone in my neighborhood bought one and I loved it. I also remember showing my Dad one when he was buying his '98 TL and he said the wing was "dreadful" Lol.

I also have all the magazines/brochures since '97

The first ITR i seen was a 96spec JDM ITR and that was in late 1997. I spotted it as i was driving past a JDM import dealer and turned to go back and look at it. I walked into his yard and stayed approx 30minutes just standing looking at it, perring through the windows, looking under it, around it, over it etc etc I was so in love with the car. There were R32/R33 skylines in the same yard and i never blinked an eyelid in their direction. I swore that day that i would own one someday, and after owning 3 JDM Si-VTECs i finally bought one...and i'll have it for a few years yet to come.

Right after I got the R I got a whole lot more attention than I barganed for. Not to mention everyone wanted to race. I had a cop tell me my car instagates too many people to race. I told him one ticket he'd never be able to give me lawfully was a drag racing ticket. He said only time will tell. I said "whatever".

But here i am almost 10 years later owning a 98' CW. And i still love that feeling everytime i sit in that driver seat!

I thought they were bonified rice rockets until one handed my *** to me on the street when I was in my VR6. That was in 01'. I needed one after that.

haha I am the worst here, I didn';t even know there was a Type R integra until about 2 years ago... right before I bought mine and did a little research. I thought for so long the GSR was the "fastest" integra.

Opie: everyone around where I live who owns a VR6 thinks they are the bomb shiznat. I finally got a "spirited" contest against a guy I know with one last summer and handed him his ***.... safely, only to 60 mph then he left off admitting the R was > all haha. But we already knew that didn't we.

Never knew/saw one until 98 when i rolled into a car show with a friend from my old neighborhood. Fell in love that day (only 16) ...... 5 years later i found one in better condition with lower mileage then i rode in that day back in 98 . I will never be selling my car!

Man, I can't tell U how many times the ignorant morons that live in my area thought I had put a body kit & rims on a Goe Metro. It wasn't the fastest thing on the road but I pissed of more people w/ that little car cause it was so unsuspecting of it. The look on a guys face once in a Mustang when he tries to impress his girl passenger & I pulled right back up to him & waved. Priceless!!! Heck, all I had was a modified stock air box, a Calmini header, custom exhaust & a 7 lbs F/W.

I remember going to my dad's dealer when the first 97 came in. And seeing it surrounded by velvet ropes, and thinking damn, its just an Integra.

Then I drove one.

Not the fastest car, heck with all the mods I did to the dually it's probably faster but regardless everytime I step foot in the R it always brings a huge smile to my face, definetly holding onto the R for forever.

I saw the first (probably the only) '97 that my local dealership got, and fawned over it so fresh, so tempting, but I had a Civic I was dumping paychecks into, so.. my first time in an R was as passenger in the very same '97 during a HPDE, and ohh yeah, I was hooked, I knew I had to have one. It didn't matter that my then turbo'ed Civic was quicker and could hold its own in the handling dept., just riding in the R was an eye opener., especially when my friend John who was driving went too hot into turn 1 and decided to drive straight into the field/runoff.

Good times.

Makes me think of a guy I know indirectly who had a black 00 R. Stupid idiot gets an AEM CAI, goes out trying to impress everyone so.....in as little as 13 days he wraps it around a tree on the passenger side! If anyone had been riding w/ him they'd probably be dead. Someone told me when they saw the car, the front tires were completely bald!
