Default My recently tuned CRX; dyno enclosed

The Specs:

LS/VTEC bored to 81.5 with stock obd0 b16 head
Eagle Rods
JE Pistons; 10.8:1
JG 65mm TB
AEBS intake manifold
Password whale fallice
AN-R compact header
2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust

I was initially running a generic tune, finally got my car on the dyno and made some pulls. This is what we ended up with:

I'm fairly pleased, the car runs 10x better and pulls a lot harder. Prior to this I pulled a 13.8 in my 89 crx HF on street tires, & I believe be picked up at least 5 hp across the boards with a peak gain somewhere around 10hp. I'm hoping this will put me in the low 13's with better driving on my part.

One more thing, the motor was built with nitrous intentions, look for 100-125 shot dp dyno comming THIS SPRING!

Good #'s.. Keep us posted. I would like to see the numbers when you add a little juice to that engine.

I'd say that's a good number for a stock head.

id say those are fairly low numbers for the money youve spent

Like I said, the motor was not built to be all motor, it's going to be nitroused. I wanted something that was well balanced to make good all-motor power on the street and ripped on the track.

i was thinking the same thing... not at all a let down, for a rex, those are nice numbers. but for the $$ you've spent (atleast what it SEEMS you've spent) they seem low....

Well the rods and pistons and arp conneting goods were a must for the nitrous. The bolt on's are certainly debatable. The password intake was a gift, and I think i spent $300 on the throttle body intake manifold combo. The header rann me $450 and the exhaust was about $350 to have custom built. I dunno, the engine bay looks good

Why would you expect higher numbers? It's an ls/vtec with i/h/e. The rods don't do anything for power, and the pistons aren't crazy high for compression. They are more of an insurance thing. And the TB and IM aren't going to exactly present high numbers w/o some good cams.

How much of a nitrous shot are you gonna try for? Should be a very fast car thats for sure

I built a high comp d16 to spray a 150 shot but timing owned the expletive outta me and my newb ***

Good luck

I just aquired a b18a1 and was thinking of going LS/Vtec.. I just might now.

I think those are nice numbers though.

You need headwork next..I mean youve got eveything else..ANR header, aebs manifold,10.8:1 compression ratio..But you have a stock pre obd b16a head,,The head that has the worst of the dohc vtec b-series cams..Get some type-r cams, and do some porting on the intake and exhause,,Get some adjustable cam gears and re-tune..Should make 190+ hp ..Also it looks as if it running a tad bit rich on the top which may cause the power loss up there along with the stock cams..What do you have for fuel management anyway?? BRE??,, turboedit..?

I agree ^ Open that head up and get some cams. Will make really nice power with nitrous either way.

Nice numbers. I love that flat torque curve.

Thanks for all the comments guys! The motor in my rex pulls really hard, and it's a great drivable car in town...doesn't drive like a typical honda w/ required downshifting etc.

The next mod will be nitrous as it will be the best bang for the buck power adder. I will be spraying a 100shot dp (I know I COULD go bigger). With that I am looking for about 300whp. I will, however, be doing some head work in the future...something that makes good peak power right around 8k. I was thnking rockets, but we will see...I will be shooting for an easy 200whp all motor in the future.

The motor is tuned via BRE (big thanks to ben ogle for a great editor) The motor is a tish rich on that last run...but pulling any fuel wouldn't have added any power...

The dyno used was a dynojet, great tuner if anyone in the midwest is interested. It cost me $175 for a FULL dyno tune!!!!!

that answered my question. i was going to ask why the low compression. cant wait to see that dyno.

The an-r is nice from the standpoint that you don't have to have a lot of room to run it, and that it appears to make good horsepower...probably some of the best for the $$$. Unfortunately, I ran into some clearance issues on mine where it touched the oil pan, I had to have shop cut/reweld a pipe just so that I could mount up my exhaust...an-r didn't really seem to give a damn. If you have the room, I'd consider some other options...but it's definitely a good piece. I purchased my header directly from an-r...takes a couple weeks to get though.

meh, nitrous is the best of both worlds for me. Eventually some year down teh line it will be turboed, when I make a lot more money and have a second car.
