Default CV joint question

anyway heres my ?

has anybody riped one of these biches apart?

i need to replace the joint cover

i wanna get the end of the axel (the ribbed part) out of the hole that conects it to the pivoting part down near the hub. can i do it w/o taking the hub off? i already have the whole axel out of the tranny and it is just attached to the hub, and is sitting on my garage floor. but i cant get the two apart.

i have to have it fixed b4 next week cause my inspection is up, so im kinda in a hurry.

oh gawd. i will NEVER ask how to mess with a cv joint and i will NEVER attempt to repair one. just go spend 60 on a new axle, save yourself the hassle. a cv boot kit is like 20 bux, so an extra 40 bux for a brand new (reman) axle with a lifetime warranty. autozone ownz j00.

i just removed the entire hub assembly at the ball joint. then i could swing the hub around and get a bfh on the axle to get it out of the hub.

but do what rexb16 said. just jet a new (remanufactured) axle. its worth it...IMO.

well thats how this project started

i wanted to replace the CV joint boot but i've done it 3 times in the past year already w/ the ones that are slit down the side. the damn things keep breaking and shooting grease everywhere. so this tim i figured id buy the solid slip on kind and just take the hub off, easy enough right? wrong the hub bolt is all fucked up from a previous accident, so i split everything else on the suspension and dropped the other end out of the tranny thinking it would be easier to work on which it was but after 2 hrs of trying to pull it out and trying to break the hub nut i gave up.

i think im just gonna end up cutting the hub nut off and replacing it because this has been way too much f a headach to fix it again in 3 months even if it means no car for a few days

Sounds like you still have to crack the axle nut. You have to do this while the axle is still in the tranny.
