General question to who can vouch for and is sure about the H22 motor
whats good prelude fanatics i have a h22 in a tegg i love b series but this is a first h22 in my experiance of the honda game lol its powerful and fast enough, but you can tell turbo is comin in a little bit. My question who ever has or had a h22 and ran them are they reliable like the b series? can u beat the S*** out of them and can they take it ? i understand its a honda, but many b series fans told me that they are not as good. like v-tec takes more oil then b series and oil pumps always break. anyone got info please hit me up at Raven391@aol.com
The simple fix for the oil problem is to just check your oil regularly, more if you hit vtec often.
youre listening to a bunch of random benchracing opinions.....
ok heres a short list of things i like/ dislike with h22's
transmission wise- h22 trannys can be a little finicky so baby them
engine...Likes: TORQUE-yea baby, reliable, more stock hp than any b (well damn close to b18 type r's)
Dislikes:
1) i cant compare oil consumption vs a b series...and neither can anyone unless they have worked on a ton of each...brad/howard/rick whereever you are/anyone else add your 2 cents here
2)as you may know frm limits piston options unless you iron sleeve the block
3)the autotensioner for the timing belt is just another hydraulic piece to go bad/ hate high rpms (+7500) so they are often changed out for a manual one from an h23- (b series have manual tensioners) not a big deal...about 80 bucks..and when youre doing a timing belt it adds about a whole 2.39 minutes to retrofit from an auto to manual tensioner
4)this engine is bigger than b series so it wont rev to the moon (if thats what you are calling beating the snot out of)
however, with lots of engine work you can get it revving up close to 10k in a "street motor"
5)if youre trying to just bolt on a "turbo kit" please dont ruin another h22. just like any other engine you need to build it to handle the turbo..just like anyone should build a b, c, f, or lmnop series engines to handle one...dont listen to d16 homeboys..they have that ill faith that their engines can handle boost in their stock form..and theyre always breaking down...hehe
anyway i hope i shed some light...anyone else add your opinions..keep the h22 pal
