Default Rack End Bushing - installation

Well, I've been messing with this stupid thing too long... I decided I'd replace it while I change out a bunch of parts.

I dropped the whole rack (if you take off the drivers side outer tie rod you can just pull off the cat and leave the shift linkage connected) and after about a minute of poking at the bushing it came out. I'm assuming it's quite a bit easier to get out when the rack is off of the car?

Now I'm trying to get the new bushing back in, and it's not as easy as everybody makes it seem! lol, I already broke one of the supid things. I was prying the two tabs in with some itty bitty screwdrivers and gave it a tap to try and get the tabs down into the tube and one of the tabs snapper right off I got 2 more in the mail yesterday (ordered 2 just in case), but before I try again with it when I get home from work I wanted to see what methods everybody else used to get that stupid bushing back in...

Default Re: Rack End Bushing - installation (Josh.)

taking it out is harder than putting it back in. i just use a combination of various picks and pliers to push, pry and pull the bushing in and out. just work on side first, get it barely in that it remains depressed, then get the other side in and depressed and then you can push it in all together. i still dont understand how you broke one...

dont forget to adjust the steering gearbox before youre done.
