Default New to Building LsV w/ ?'s

I've been searching and im not sure what pistons to use. im tryin to get a gsr head with maybe ctr or itr cams and im tryin to keep in mind CR b/c its goin to be a daily drivin car with 93 octane. As for rods im also lost; i've read many people just using a stock bottem end with arp rod bolts but isnt heat and stress on the rods a concern. I'm not installin oil squitters so i i would think i need stronger rods. But then again i have to watch rod ratios too! I'll go with ACL bearings and ARP head and rod bolts. I'll probably just use a ported GSR intake manifold. And does anyone know what is a good lsvtec kit to use? I might use Eagle but i dont know the gasket thickness and i need to know so i can watch my CR. Also how good is it to Shot-Peen ur rods? does the strengthen it that much? and i know to get the crank balanced and mirco-polished. Well ill except all input even a lil flaming since i do drive a dodge but i've always had a honda for the past 5 yrs and i've been along time member of this form and yes i've searched!!!

This might be helpful for you....

Those are a lot of questions, so I'll try to tackle some. If it's a street motor, and you're not looking to spend 700+ dollars on forged pistons and rods, stick with your stock rods, do the upgrading you have listed, and stick with an OEM piston such as the JDM ITR (~11.3:1) or the JDM B16A (~11.5:1). You can find these pistons brand new for 199 at jhpusa.com .... that's the cheapest place I've found them. Those CR's are plenty street-able on 93 octane, and assuming your bottom end is done right, you should have no problem revving up to 9k on the stock rods.

EDIT: Just realized you're using a GS-R head.... so those CR's may be a bit off. But anything in up to low-mid 12's is streetable with a good tune. Just stay away from CTR pistons!

The c-speed how-to has directions to make your own kit, it just has dead links to http://www.racerpartswholesale.com . Look up the part numbers..... and you'll piece together your own lsvtec kit for about 40 bucks (plus a head gasket... I recommend an oem 3-layer). Not bad a bad price considering the jacked up other kits that do the exact same thing.

Anyway, just my two cents. Good luck.

Run P30 pistons (JDM B16A).

Your compression ratio will be about 11.7:1 with the GSR head.

That will put you in the 'sweet spot' for alot of the big-name cams on the market, M22x, Pro 1+, S2S2's, etc...

Have fun.
