Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie on this list and have a question I was hoping I could get some help with. I've researched it some on the list, and there doesn't seem to be a direct answer to my question. I apologize if I've missed an entry, and I'm asking a redundant question.
I have a stock 91 Honda Civic LX (5spd manual) which I will probably have to replace the transmission on soon. I was wondering if the transmisisons on the D series engines are generally compatible. I know that some have a cable driven clutch while others are hydraulic, and the 89, and 90-91 transmissions have different spline counts. My questions are these:
If the transmission is from a Civic 1990 or later, and is cable driven, will it just bolt up to my car and work?
Will a transmission from the next generation Civic 92 - 95 work on my car? Are all the 92 - 95 transmissions hydraulic or are some of them cable? (The reason I ask is right now there are more 92 - 95 series Civics in my local scrap yard than Civics from 90 - 91.)
I'd greatly appreciate any insight you guys can offer.

Sorry everyone, I mean to post in the pre92 section, and didn't realize I was posting this one until after I clicked post. I can't seem to move the posting so I'll just leave this one here and be more careful next time.

 

all of them will bolt up but transmission sizes are slightly different. my father and i tried to put a 99ex auto tranny on there and it fit on the motor but then wouldnt fit back into the engine bay.
